    I was looking at importing a Ferrari from the U.S. a while back. Make a long story short. I found one in town for a good price. I have imported a vehicle form the U.S. before. Anyways, concerning Ferrari's and others. I was told you pay the 13% tax which is a given. Then there is a 6% exotic car fee on top of that, and another $1000 I can't remember what for. On top of that you have to have the vehicle inspected or whatever it is from Ferrari Canada at a price of $5000. This is what I was told. Is this true ?

    I haven't personally done this but I know the previous owner of my car imported my 1974 GT4 b he told me it was about $900 for the import fees.
    Year of manufacture will determine allot.
    I can't imagine it will cost $5000 the law states;

    I've never heard of a 6% exotic car fee. There is a 6% fee if the car is made outside Canada or the USA. I know it is all related to the VIN. Example is if you buy a Honda CRV in the states. You have to check the VIN to see if it's made in the Japanese plant, or one in the USA. If it's made in the Japanese plant then you pay the 6% tax. I didn't think it had anything to do with it being exotic. I paid that tax when I brought a Mini Cooper S from Miami to here.

    There are lots of threads on this subject so a simple search will yield the answer to all of your questions.

    One thing that has never been made clear is that you are technically responsible for the 6.1% import duty on the amount of the car made out of the US or Mexico. As an example a Mercedes ML is built in Georgia but the engine comes from Germany. The window sticker will show a % split between NAFTA and non NAFTA percent of the vehicle and it is the non NAFTA percent you pay the duty on. That is the theory. In practice they just look at where the car was made and in the case of the MB it would come in duty free.
