I am a Brit looking to move to Perth. Does anyone have experience (good or bad!) of importing a 20 year old Ferrari that I have owned for 6 years. Useful links would help too, thanks in advance

You won't have any problems as long as you have owned it for more than 6 months or so. At least that was the rule back in 2000 when I helped a friend import a TVR. He was in Perth but the car was shipped from England to Melbourne.

Send an email to [email protected] and he should be able to point you in the right direction.

Jeff - with a 20 year old car to Oz it will still have to be RHD in most states (WA may be an exception). I see you are in the UK so assume that isn't a problem. Also with over 15 years old IIRC you don't have to convert/comply the car to Australian Design Rules (ADR's) so that should be OK as well. And with 6 years ownership there is a formula for calculating the duties and taxes which you will have reduced. I have read horror stories about people's cars being banged up on the docks, etc. When I imported my Mustang for road rallies I had my own 20' container with the car plus a bunch of our personal stuff as well - it stayed sealed and was delivered to a customs agent so no problems with wharfies jacking around with the car so you might consider that.

Haven't checked into any of this for a few months so the usual disclaimers appy.

    Cheers
    Kevin

    Hey mate,

Great to hear another nice F car will hit our shores.

Living in perth and having a bit of background into importing i am happy to tell you that if the car is more than 15 years old you (whether having owned it or not) will be able to import it.

as you are moving here to perth you can import a LHD car, but given that your in UK i imagine it would be RHD anyway.

best way for you to bring it in however is as a personal import. Regulations used to be that you were required to own it for 3 months OS, however that was changed to 12 months after many people were using this rule to bring in all kinds of wonderfull cars.

as you have owned it for 6 years i see little/no problem with bringing it here.

where are you looking to move in Perth? I have a house for sale if your interested hahaha
