    Henry.......

Check the IRS, NHTSA, and EPA websites for the latest updates, I know the car complies with EPA as it has the correct sticker.........but 7 years ago when I sent a 1986 Turbo to Alabama I had to install the US bumper shocks, which made no sense, as ours are 5 MPH and your's are half that.......

You are also going to pay duty at the border......IIRC 2.5%.......

Having imported a 928 from Germany I can tell you that it is not a nightmare...just EXPENSIVE! Drop the thing off w/ (or more than likely you would have to have it delivered to) a Registered Importer (RI) and write them a big fat check and in a few months they will give you your car back! The DOT stuff is not nearly as bad as the EPA stuff though. Bringing in a post '95 car with the OBDII gear required is nearly impossible, but even for an '80's car that still needs to be EPAed you are talking about a lot of money. The cats will NEVER pass (unless the car has BRAND NEW FACTORY cats on it) and for my GTS those cats were $3000 (thank god I found a new set for $995!), and then the test by itself is $2500! Can you believe that?! Amazing! If your car fails the test then guess what...you get to spend more money on emissions tuning AND another $2500 on the test itself! YUCK!

For my '92 928 GTS (the only '92 GTS in the USA) had I not sourced all the parts and just let them call up the local Porsche dealer in Houston, TX the conversion would have cost nearly as much as the car...it would have been $13,000+. Since I provided all the parts it brought things down just below $8,000, but still if you are looking at a good deal on a car in Canada and then have to do all that work (even w/o the EPA stuff) you are talking about a REALLY BAD deal in the long run!

Move along there are plenty of good P-cars right here in the US of A!
