    Hello all,

Has anyone ever brought a car over from Europe on the 25 year exclusion ?? Paperwork ?? Shipping cost ?? And if you have, do you know what would happen if the car is an ' 87 ... only 23 years old?? Can I just delay titleing it in my home state ??

My job takes me to Europe all the time, so seeing the car first and interacting with the selling dealer is not an issue. I'm getting a general idea what to do, but I'm just looking to get a handle on other's experiences.

    Thanks,

    Art

I imported a 1964 Fiat Abarth from Germany in 2007. Cost using a shared 40 ft container was $5.5K.
My father just imported a 1972 Fiat from the UK to Washington State using a RoRo shipper and I believe he said it cost him $3.5K. I would recommend you go that route unless there is a specific reason not to. The shared container was a real pain-- you get robbed with fees like you can't believe.

My recollection is that the Feds don't care about cars 25 yrs old. State laws vary.
You probably can't bring in a car less than 25 yrs old and just let it sit in your garage for 3 years--my recollection is that you have to sign some kind of waver, post a bond, etc, etc.
