I am considering purchasing a European Spec 1995 355 and importing it to the States. Do I have to get the speedometer and odometer converted to miles to register here? What is the downside to importing a European spec car? Thanks.

You could wait until 2020 when it becomes 25 years old and importable under the display collectible car rules. :)

Can anyone recommend a shop in the NY metro area that has experience importing european cars and getting them registered here. Thanks.

Let me make the suggestion that you would be better off getting a Euro 360 and doing this. This car is more of a world model and will be far easier to make USA compliant, if it needs anything at all. When the 360 debuted, there was some trouble getting cars, so I know of several people who sourced a Euro model and brought them in. They all mentioned how straight forward it was. Most of the difficulty, they said, was in proving that the car was USA compliant from the factory. Many manufacturers went this direction - why make so many different versions of the same car when you are a small production facility and most of your products end up in the US anyway?

Well, for one thing, the 355's do not appear to be aging as well as our 348's. :p
