Importing from Europe

I am curious as to the process of importing a vehicle from Europe. What is the cost, and the process and anything else I might need to know. Thanks in advance

 

Depends on vehicle age - inversely proportionate hassle & cost factor to age ie the older the easier

Without more detail I doubt anyone can be much more specific

 

Yeah, a LOT more detail would be helpful.

Some cars cannot be imported while others just need some EPA docs and there is a laundry list involved.

It may be best to contact a US Customs office, although there are probably people here who could give you more information and advice.

My suggestion is make sure it's either antique or a federalized vehicle.

I was thinking a 348, they seem to not have the auto seat belts, and a lot more tb's.

In Europe the 348 do have automatic seat belts.

 

To bring it into the US from Europe you need two things. First is a letter from the manufacturer stating the veh meets all US standards, however if the car is greater than 25 years old this is not required and the vehicle is exempt meaning you only need the second portion of this. Second, all need a registered importer of vehicles (there are several, google it for whatever port it is coming into) to bond the car, have the car and vin inspected by the authorities and then they provide the correct documentation which allows the vehicle to be registered. Importers usually charge about $1000-$2k to do this once the car is in port.
