I was thinking the same thing! One thing is for sure, the people that were watching from the camera-person's side of the street definitely got their $$$s worth.
The camera was positioned too far back to see the point where it all went wrong. But from the number of machines that started to flip even before leaving the road, it seems that the gravel lost its compression --- in effect, there was a gravel trap in the middle of the course. Something must have happened to the road after the last course notes update. Since it was behind the crowd on the right from the camera's viewpoint, it's hard to guess what that might have been.
All of those "Pro" drivers were in full lock up going into the turn! NICE FORM, NICE TECHNIQUE, MAD SKILLZ LOLZ! "Holy BeJubus hold on! We're dieN today!"
