most tracks have camera systems so race control sees things real time. I assume that was part of the renovations road atlanta did a few years ago? it’s been a while since I did any corner working but FCY decision was almost always from the tower down, not corners up.
Given that it was on the broadcast of the car sitting there on a blind crest with no lights race control certainly had video. A lot of times they try to give the incident a minute to allow people to duck into the pits or the car to get moving under it's own power before throwing the FCY. In that case they needed to do it immediately. Race control should have seen it in real time as it was on tv. Corner marshalls should have alerted race control to what they were seeing. The team and race control also would have been in communication.
WT is a good friend of mine. I have not spoken to him since the race, but I can imagine how gutted they are by the outcome. IMSA should review this for their edification . It could have been much worse.
