really early schedule release (usually done around the Road America event in late summer!), good to see I like the 6 hr Road America race. 4 hours of Mid Ohio seems like punishment Tweet— Twitter API (@user) date
They did the same last year. None of it really changes so they could probably do the 2030 schedule now if they really wanted to. The M-O event has Pilot Challenge as the headliner. I am debating about going to that this year...except that I hate Mid-Ohio.
Mid Ohio is a tough sell that graphic is confusing...so the WeatherTech race is 2:40 but the Pilot race is 4 hours?
It is confusing. WeatherTech isn't going to M-O. Didn't last year, won't this year or next. MPC is the headliner for the weekend. https://www.imsa.com/events/2025-mid-ohio-sports-car-course/
I could see them eventually doing something similar to bring Lime Rock back on the calendar. Pilot Challenge is such a good series that I can see why they feel it can stand on it's own as a headliner.
Lime Rock has it's own challenges with all the noise restrictions. Mid-Ohio always seemed to create really good racing...it's just that the track is a dump. Maybe they have made some improvements since I was last there. I always wondered how a track that pulls a good crowd and has so many major events, could be in such bad shape.
Long race is back at RA, very cool. I remember when they would end after dark a few years ago, which was very interesting. Reminded me of the Sebring races I went to, although RA is a superior track.
I haven't been to Mid Ohio for a long time but last time I was there I thought to myself "man what a ****hole" and then the PA announcer started going on about all the improvements they had made over the winter! racing isn't all that great there either, and it tends to be hot and humid (date dependent), so not a great venue.
I went the 5 years that IMSA was back there 2018-2022. The date they did then at the end of April was terrible. We called it Mud-Ohio for a reason. It seemed like it got worse over those 5 years. In 2022 they removed one of the pedestrian bridges and pushed back a lot of the fences. In doing so they also removed photo spots from a large portion of the track. Not an "improvement" for spectators. A few of the MPC races there have had really crazy finishes that stand out in my mind. I guess you could say that about that series just about anywhere though.
that's a good point. MPC can put on a great show anywhere. same for MX5 Cup. there were some great SCCA runoffs races at Mid O. bigger/faster cars need certain tracks, Mid-O isn't it. when was the last really good IndyCar race at Mid Ohio?
I have heard similar things said about Barber. It just didn't really work with multi-class racing. Generally speaking I find Indycar to be a bit hit or miss. The races are either really exciting, or really boring. St. Pete for example.. Since we are on the topic, I would love to see VIR no longer be a GT only round. It worked great when we had GTLM and GTD but with everything GT3 based, there just isn't enough passing for it to be interesting. LMP2 and GTD Pro would be a fun combo there..
Wanted to listen to the IMSA Radio broadcast, but the Peacock feed is like 2 min behind the IMSA Radio feed. That will get rather annoying.
