So, now that I've got my new office up and running, I was sitting around, daydreaming, that some of those "458 fire victims" might let me negotiate with FNA on their behalf. I'm thinking new cars for them - and a GTO for me - you know, just to cover my fees.

Yeah, sure, it is a pipe dream - but I expect to get some really good mileage out of it. Vrooom, vrooom, vrooom ..... Don't wake me, I'm sleeping!!!

Saw this yesterday. My favorite part is when they call them "thermal incidents".
    Gotta love the spin.

    What's the world coming to?

Ferrari announced in the last 48 hours they are instituting a recall of ALL the 458s! Dealers started calling their customers earlier.

First Toyota, even Honda, now Ferrari.

So what happens to the person with the destroyed 458? Does Ferrari replace that car with no long wait? Seems to me, customer service, that car would be built in a heart beat.

I'd venture every carmaker has had recalls.

+1 But I don't think a large portion of those recalls had to do with "thermal incidents."

    Per the article

..."A Ferrari spokesperson (she) told CNN that heavy use of the car, such as driving fast down a twisty road or up a mountain, will increase the temperature inside the engine bay, causing it to smoke or ignite"..da da da...
-First of all, Ferrari should fire that useless, ignorant "spokesperson", because evidently she believes Ferrari cars are not built to be driven in those conditions. Probably she is a Prius greenie type, or perhaps she was SUI .

-Then Ferrari says ..."that would have occurred in a relatively small portion of the production..." Wait a minute, Ferrari ! For your own sake and future, I hope you meant "it should have NEVER occurred in any of our production 458's". Otherwise, vergogna nazionale e mondial !!

Is anyone else wondering at the irony that the part that is catching fire is a "heat shield."

Where can I get me one of them new fangled - flammable heat shields???

Woulda been mucho worse if Ferrari had to list them as "Thermal Humanoid Incidents".

Didnt a couple of people with 360's or 430's have convertible motors that dripped hydraulic fluid in the engine resulting in fires?

One of them caught on fire at the toy rally a few years ago.

Yes, they are the famous "Sacrificial Heat Shields" that sacrifice themselves for the good of the rest of the car.
