I'm speechless. Great example of all money, no talent. Not only should the 911 driver not be allowed onto a racetrack but he should probably have his street license pulled as well!
don't get your knickers all in a twist , alot of stuff like this happens in touring cars racing .. try watching BTCC ... you'll probably think that that 911 driver was just showing the 944 some fender..... you guys should get out more.
Great video to learn something from. 1) If this is club racing then the 911 guy is an idiot violated the no contact rule of 99% of clubs. The passer is responsible to do it safely in most clubs. 2) Did the 944 guy look in his mirrors? The 911 guy was coming up pretty fast and it is hard to see from the video but there is no reason for the slow 944 to have to get out of the way of the 911. The fast car can get around him safely at just about any speed and anywhere. 3) In club racing you can't expect the knowledge/skill of the driver to be great so personally, you need to defend your line and make the other guy work for the pass out of personal self preservation. The 944 guy looked to run a time trial line and left himself no room to escape except dirt. The 911 guy sees the 944 guy giving him lots of road so he takes a chance at passing. With hugely dissimilar speed he misjudged and had contact. So basically, in rookie racing it is imperative to protect your line (hog the road when appropriote) to slow or block another car as a paint saving defensive maneuver. Sometimes if you leave marginal passing room the guy 911 will not take the chance and try for a smarter pass by trying to "time you" for more exit speed as the blocker 944 has to slow because he is not on his fastest line while tyring to block. When you leave gobs of room like the 944 then people 911 take chances and you put yourself at risk. 4) OTOH s&it happens and the 911 guy maybe just drifted out more than he thought and bang. But if the 944 guy left just a bit less room since the time trial fast line was doing nothing for him anyway (the 911 was closing very fast) the 944 could of moved left a foot before impact and maybe saved it.
i've seen worse, as has been said it depends what type of event it was. But thats why casual track days they make passing in turns a no no for beginners
I think for a club event, hitting like that sucks, but the 944 seems like he was going way wide to let the 911 by and then he pinched him up, if the 944 is going to give way, why not give way, there is not huge prize money so why pinch him in. On other hand, the 911 had its front wheels crossed up magnifying the swing out, seems like he could have saved the pass for the straight as well. I would give it a 50/50 since the 944 went so wide into the turn. Just my 2 cents.
It's mainly because I've been out that have seen these type of idiots at the track in touring series events. Forget about car damage, all the fun ends when someone gets hurt due to an inexperienced and/or not talented driver's poor decision. May be you have not been out enough to witness a bad accident caused by a driver's poor judgement.
I don't know how to respond to that. Why don't you try watching some BTCC and maybe , some GTCC first ? Maybe after that , you can come back here and comment all you like about what is fair/good/bad/crap in a RACING environment. Have a nice day.
