Hello to all, John and I went to Pueblo to have some track time with our F40 and drive some Indy cars. It was a very hot day but with plenty mecanical troubles !!! First, we couldn't remove the knock off on John's car than my LM ran on 1 bank !! That cleared up and got the slicks on. The Indy car, had even more troubles...I had to park the LM after some laps since the electrical trouble at the fuel pump kept coming back. Out was the LM !!! I had to keep playing with Bailey's new 996 GT3. I sat a very long time in the Lola Indy but the gear box died after some oil leak and ingnition switch replacement. They all were super friendly to try to gets us going. John did a few laps and had troubles too. Oh well, we still had a great time and we will do the test end of August at PPIR. They surprised me with a big cake to celebrate my 54th...I know, I look like mid 30... Happy 4th to all, I'll see who can help me post some pics with you. Take care Roland F40LM
Unfortunately Roland did not get to have as much fun as I did yesterday. I got in several laps in the F40 before making my Indy Car debut. Oh, and Dave Helms, thanks again for the dual master cylinder design. it has come a long way toward stopping since our first visit there a couple years ago. I got to run several laps in the CHAMP car Michael Andretti drove to the series championship in 1991. It was a 1991 Lola with a turbo Buick V6. What an incredible experience. Oddly the toughest part to get used to is the shifting. It is a manual 6 speed gearbox same pattern as my 360 - but you only use the clutch for leaving the pits. All braking is done by left foot. When you go up through the gears, you just shift as you accelerate w/o the clutch. It is very quick and precise. But when you downshift, you stab the brakes before the corner slide the shifter to neutral, blip the throttle and just select the gear you want to be in when you leave the corner. After several efforts it actually became very easy to do this and very fast. This left foot braking thing works very well, except when your brain has to many things going on. I.e. when up shifting from 2 to third out of the hairpin, I jammed the brakes as I was used to pushing in a clutch to shift and my left foot was covering the brake pedal. That was a bit embarrassing. After a while you can really get the feel for these cars and the ride is second to none. Any one that gets a chance to drive one of these cars should jump at the chance. I want to personally thank Bailey Dotson for giving me the opportunity to do just that. I owe you one Bailey! John
So Roland, If you think that you look in your mid 30's, that must mean I am a teenager. Right? Johnny
