San Antonio didn't come thru with the A1GP so it's in Monterey but there's gonna be racing in Texas on the newly released ALMS sked for '06! New events for 2006 include the Houston Grand Prix in May, at the city's downtown street course. Houston played host to its first street racing event in 1998. The new 1.7-mile temporary street circuit will be located at Reliant Park and will mark the first street race for the ALMS since Miami in 2003. An added bonus is Houston as a market. It is the fourth largest city in the United States in terms of population, and it is a top-10 TV market. "This is a schedule on which we have worked long and hard," said Tim Mayer, COO of IMSA. "It has everything a fan, sponsor and team of the ALMS could want: new events, an enhanced television package and incredible new opportunities in Salt Lake City and Houston." Should be great. If the tickets are going to be similar to those for Laguna-Seca in a couple weeks, it will be the bargain of the century race to attend. I know where we will be on May 12! In LMP2 I'll be cheering for Intersport Racing #37 Lola with Liz Halliday, Clint & Jon Field and of course #35 MC12 in GT1 followed by the #63 Saleen in GT1. Can't wait! Carol
What was it, ten years or so ago I saw several races in downtown San Antone. I think they were Le Mans type cars. Anyone else see those?
The good old days of IMSA. A longtime family friend ran a Camel Lite in one of those races. The coolsuit crapped before he left the grid... As I recall that was in August, maybe July, either way too damn hot for racing. He came in early when he sighted a pink elephant running down the front straight.
Yes, & there will also be a CCWS (Champ Car World Series) race that same weekend. I went when they had it in 98 & 99 - glad it's coming back! -Marcy
