Guys.... I am a 328 owner. But have decided to change or add a 348ts to the stable, (I just love them) With the exception of annual servicing, the replacement of consumables IE tyres, brake pads etc.and personal modifications. What has gone wrong with your 348 and what has it cost you? I keep hearing that they are expensive to run but why? Any feedback would be much appreciated Thanks guys... R
Torn CV boot. Also, I vaguely remember something about a rear bearing, but it was pretty minor whatever it was. C'est tout!
Not that this will happen if you do get a 348. But my clutch pressure plate gave up the ghost after 3 months of ownership. I have the complete service history with the car. It mentions the clutch plates(dual plates)were changed 3 times(with the major services) but has no mention of the pressure plate ever being replaced. So........i put it down to old age, thats why it failed. My new clutch cost me AU$2500, built by ferrarifixer here in Aus.
Car over heated. Replaced a thermostat that cost £45, but later turned out to be a piece of metal in the cooling system that jammed closed the thermostat. Flat battery caused by me leaving the stereo on for a week. A/C fans stopped working. Then started working intermittently. Then worked ok, but the Clock kept resetting itself on start up. Left everything as it was and the problems fixed themselves. Passenger window stopped working, due to wire's breaking in drivers door loom. Flasher light system stopped working twice. Indicator lights stopped flashing. Replaced flasher unit. Rear night lights kept fusing. Problem fixed itself and have'nt had any bulbs blow for months. Revalve the dampers. Although not a problem, felt after 12 years they needed doing. Improved the ride. Things to do in the future on it: Re-core the radiators Replace rear disc brakes Respray bonnet, engine lids and window quarters As you can see, mostly electrical problems. Other than that.... car is running great
Besides regular maintenance: 1. Bank 5-8 shutdown. Unclipped cat ecu and cleaned electrical connections. Has not recurred. Cost: $0 2. Blower fan not functional. Replaced hidden fuse and relay, has worked fine since. Cost: Not sure, had a spare fuse & relay lying around. Probably less than $10. I got a well sorted car and had a PPI and major done by Bobileff - everything just works. With any Ferrari, paying a little extra for a good example saves money and grief in the long run.
A/C compressor and line that runs from the front of the car to the back, and a fuse block. Total repair costs $700 (compressor installed), $500 A/C line fixed, $750 fuse block + 3 recharges on the A/C ($150 each) - total $2400. BT
#1) Broken C clip drivers side door lock 19 cents plus 8 hours my labor. #2) Electric mirror drivers side, cleaned plug works fine. #3) Burnt out tail light bulb $1.29 #4) Mad Mouse drivers side works sometimes, the hell with it! #5) Emergency Brake bracket bent straightened with pliers. Dave
...ok 1....both windows failed to work..cause wiring in doors...cost 20 uk pounds 2....windscreen wiper arm has broken on drivers side..not done yet 3....clutch had to be replaced..cost 700 uk pounds fitted which is a bargain (its who you know ) To do but not urgent.. 1...coolant header tank weeping slightly 2...air con is working but not usable due to very noisy compressor This is in the last 11 months of ownership....not drastic and its a 1990tb with 65000 miles!
nothing/knock on wood/ that has amounted to a hill o' beans. i love my car! i was freaked out last winter , it was running rough. did a compression check, changed 02 sensors, ran diagnostic test.. all the while it was a bad new champion spark plug. only figured it out after i replaced the wires set.. but the old ones were stiff anyway.. just got back from a 24 hr drive- in- one- weekend drive. amazing!
I've had my 94 gts almost exactly 18 months. I have replaced a slightly worn steering rack bush which took 3 hours and cost nothing, and recently a ham fisted mate broke the internal door release cable on the pasenger side. The secret? I drive it every day. mike D.
Alternator (Delco) failed some time back, I rebuilt it at cost of 40 uk pounds in replacement parts plus my time, battery also replaced as precautionary. HVAC has a possible ground issue but only on initial start up (switch off and back on and is fine for rest of that drive). Speedo needle occasionally has a mind of its own (doesn't do it very often so haven't got round to fault finding). Going back 2 to 3 years, driveshaft seal failure (see note below, poss a low usage issue?) Jobs pending Cambelt - V young family and lots of other stuff to do so still haven't got round to doing cambelt (but not driving it until its done). HVAC ground? Speedo ground or sender? Installing the window winder 'turbo boxes' just bought from Bric a brac (although I have to say from what I've read my windows don't sound too bad - for a 348). As a footnote my 348 is 'extremely' young in terms of mileage (yes, due to many other commitments and several other forms of transport its the ubiquitous garage queen!), so it's a little unrepresentative wrt parts that would 'wear' out, but representative for parts that would cause issues from lack of use.
radio wouldnt turn off , kept flatting the battery, auto electrian sorted it out cost me $75.00. andrew
liitle piece of plastic inside passenger door lock - i am not fixing this as it costs £100 and I use the remote. Nothing else, but front flexi brake pipes have small blisters in them. very hard to spot. Will cost about £45 to replace with Goodrich stainless stell version
Just my opinion and I don't mean to offend 348 owners, but unless I could add the 348 to my stable I would not sell a 328 for a 348.
Had mine just over 18 months. Clock restting to 0:00. Dry joint needed soldering (£0) Air recirculation flap stuck open. Plastic bit from drive motor broke - made a new one from a long 1/4 drive socket. Sorted (£0) Clutch was getting high so checked the plate. I was on the min allowed thickness so I had it re-lined. Clutch feels great now, much smoother/lighter than it was (£40). Wire for door lock solenoid came off. Rewired connector and the windows are fast now too (£0, already had the wire). Obviously paid for an annual service too, where a leaking brake hose was found/replaced.
Not offended at all, each to their own. There is no way I would sell a 348 for a 328 - the 70's styling and transverse engine just does not do it for me.
Well,my clutch went, then 3 days after that, the main bearing in the transmission, the car has been down for 6 weeks and Im still waiting for parts from good old Italy...I bought the car in March 2006,Eurospec with new Tubi exhaust(had it imported from switzerland)with all services performed.Bottom line..not happy
I know where your coming from. When my clutch let go, 3 months after ownership, I thought I was one of them guys that buys his 1st Ferrari and then has issues and problems and would then sell the car cheap and put it down to having a bad experience with Ferrari and be scared for life. But........since the new clutch its been smooth sailing the last 8 months. So stick in there mate! Hope you get your 348 moving again asap.
but when the pain out weighs the pleasure,it's not worth the pride of ownership anymore..I'll keep you posted..
