If all you are going to do is view the pictures on a CRT/LCD screen, you don't need the 4+ megapixel cameras. I have my megapixel camera set on 1600*1200 becasue this is the largest screen I see the pictures through. With my settings I get 240 pictures on a memory stick. Unfortunately it takes about 10 sets of batterys (2 AA) to fill up the memory strip.

90% of the time I use 640 by 480 (VGA) for the internet, but I'll use max resolution for pics I think will be printed, edited, or published.

They have a 512 mb memory stick available now for a great price. That's 6 hours of video at 160 resolution! Of course the battery would die at about 1 hour. I'm buying extra batteries too. They're cheap and always run out before memory. Even on just a 64 Mb chip I never ran out of memory.

I waited for the Sony DSCt1 because it was so slim and small. However after reading reviews and finding out that it is really hard to keep it steady, I gave up on that.

I went and looked at the canon g5..but it is too bulky for me.

    I need pocketability and 5MP.

So I am looking at Nikon 5700 vs the NEW Nikon 5200.

I still use 35mm (or larger, thinking about a Hasselblad H1 Medium Format...) for everything I really care about, so my digital is for taking car pics and pics just 'when it strikes me'.

That means the thing has to be WITH me all the time.

The best camera I have found in that (pocket) size is the Canon PowerShot S100/S400 Digital Elph (mine is actually the previous S230 3megapixel.)

It's a great point and shoot.

    Pros:

    1) IT'S THERE (small enough I always have it.)

    2) Metal chassis very rugged.

    3) Fast power-on for quick shots.

    4) Decent resolution (3MP in mine, up to 5MP now.)

    Cons:

Autofocus is kind of crappy in the S230.

Can't get in closer than 3 feet to subject (no macro.)

Zoom was only 2x. This has improved markedly.

Low light sucks like any digital.
