I would guess that most people here are not extremely tight with their money all of the time. For me, when I buy a new car, I want to drain every penny of profit out of the dealer. For your spending habbits, where are you the 'tightest'?

I am the same way as you with cars Peter. I bought a Honda Accord a few years back from an unnamed dealer at invoice. I bought 3 other Hondas for my uncle/aunts from the same dealer for VERY low prices. THe GM of the dealership has banned me from buying cars, saying I don't allow them to make a profit. :D

I penny pinch with eating out (I don't), with going out to bars and clubs (I don't), don't buy electronics (no tv/vcr/dvd player), don't buy clothes, (unless when absolutely necessary for the office), no watches (don't own one).

That is how I save. I spend most of my time on the board, thus I am not too bored all the time. :)

I am pretty much the same way, I hate the idea of actually spending money. Not quite sure why exactly, basically just try to make the most out of what there is! Plus, with car dealers, there is never a fixed price, so they expect you to come down!
Who needs eating out when their is gourmet Ramen available?(I still eat instant Ramen and Rice like it's going extinct)
Box of wine solves all problems right?
Now of days pretty much everything is available on the computer anyways!
Who needs clothes? you weren't born with them! why be expected to wear them in public!
And that is what the sun is for! (just feel sorry for people in Alaska and at the poles!)

But seriusly, there are some things you don't want to skimp on, like healthcare (surgeons), walking shoes (ouch), and if the time comes 'wedding' rings! (you won't hear an end to it otherwise!)

Eat dorm food, twice a day. When I didn't live at the dorm, ate the 33cent frozen burritos you can buy at the grocery store.

    Dont smoke or drink.

    Foxnews.com baby!

Usually buy once every 3-4 years, thus I am always outdated in style category.

You are correct. Get medical through school (blue cross or something), use shoes for 3 years at the mininum, and wedding rings..hmm..we'll see when the time comes. :)

I don't like spending money on anything, really. Clothes, I suppose.

Basically this is my spending philosophy: I would rather have one or two REALLY nice things than a lot of somewhat nice stuff. And if I don't have the money for what I want, I'm not going to "compromise" on something lesser. I'll wait until I can get what I really want.

Examples: I would rather have one great suit, than two ok suits. I would rather eat in for 6 nights a week and then go to an amazing restaurant on the seventh than go to a medium place frequently.

A lot of money can be wasted on small purchases. It adds up. I'm strongly in favor of knowing what you want and going without the stuff you don't really want as badly.

    Haircut, see thread below.

Actually, I shop quality and value in that order. Oddly, I either like very ordinary things (like an old Miata, i.e. great value and unbreakable) or extraordinary things like a 330 GTC, but not much in between, i.e. M3 or 540i.

Addendum: Most wealthy people (trust funders excluded) did not get that way by pizzing their money away.

Not too big of a penny pincher, but I do make sure I have a certain level of "want" for my purchase. Make sure there will be plenty of cash left in the checking account. Do all necessary research before buying. I tend to buy the more expensive high quality things. And I rarely ever buy or waste my money on useless doo-dads.

Not necesserily because of not wanting to spend money .. .but boy do I hate shopping!!! The net made it easier!! LMAO

No software, no CDs, no DVDs for 4 years ... hehe

Clothes ... I buy 'em when I have nothing left to wear!! haha. Once or twice a year, I guess.

Goin' out. Hate it. Money or not, just hate it.

Just a general penny pincher for the simple reason that I am a control freak. I hate paying someone to do something I can ... and you guessed it, with the info available on the net, I feel like I can do anything, and better (sometimes just a feeling ... lol). :D

After all these years, I STILL have not seen "Rendezvous", because I'm too cheap to pony up $50 for an 8-minute video (I don't have a DVD). Someone want to give me a copy???

I buy cheap clothes....not bad quality clothes....but less expensive clothes that look like the name brand label stuff. This means that I have to shop a lot when I am on the hunt.....but it's worth it.

You can look really good without blowing the same amount as a 30K service.

I have an inbuilt disability. For items less than $50 they fall into the who cares buy it if you want it catagory. For items in the $50,000 and above they fall into the buy it if you can justify it. For those things inbetween, I tend to fret about them for ages before either deciding to buy or not to buy. This delay for that range of stuff, enables my bank acount to continue rising.

I definitely penny-pinch when it comes to food. I rarely eat out, including fast food. It takes some dedication, but I still bring a paper sack lunch to work everyday -- middle school style. It really adds up fast when everyone else at the office is dumping $10 a day on lunch!

No booze, drugs or cigarettes. I eat at restaurants once a month or during club functions. I buy lunch twice a month. I don't skimp on good shoes, I'm on my feet all day. Basic clothes of good quality that last a long time. Entertainment from the tube, Fox news, TLC, Discover, Speed, Spike, History.

Other entertainment is at the track watching road race or driving the 'Old Yellow One'.

I live in a smaller house, farther out of town, lower taxes. I drive a 30 year old 240Z to work. Parts are cheap!

So where am I the cheapest? Dates!:D
Where is no expense spared? 'The Yellow Mistress':p
