When you open the door the seat belts are automatically triggered on some years in the 80's and 90's, but I am not sure which years. Any help appreciated, John

My 1994 348 Spider had them. And, they worked fine for the two years I owned the car.

89 did not, but I think 90 and 91 did. Not sure about 92. 94s and 95s did not. I started a thread asking about the possibility of retrofitting regular belts in the DIY section, but no feedback as of yet.

I think my '92 has on both sides, but they don't work of course.

89s do not have them. I just sat in an 89 coupe and the belts come from the outside edges of the car behind the seats and strap in at the middle of the car.

I have a '94 Spider and it has them on both sides. They work fine, but you certainly don't have to use them if you don't want to. I never use mine - I just afix my shoulder buckle to the fixed backup attachment and unbuckle it to get out. The little automatic tab still moves up and back like it should, but I just ignore it.

I've also looked at the '92 and '93 and they are present. I think that all of the later years for the 348 have them.

Based on my prior Mustang ownership, 1989 was the last year of the tilt-wheel, non-airbag cars. So that suggests that the airbag/passive restraint requirements came in for the 1990 model year, which in turn suggests that the '89 348s ought to be the only year without the "mad mouse".

My so-new-to-me-it-is-still-in-Florida 1994 car has 'em.

    Cheers

Nice color, Kevin. Looks great on your new 348! Love the interior color, too!

...and now back to the main thread...

Thanks all, I thought it was an eighties thing but seems like kfhenry is correct and it was the 90's that had the seatbelt carrier. Good to know you do not have to rely on it though and can strap in w/o using it. thanks, John
