I have an unusual problem that I’m trying to assist a friend with.
The Vin on his car is shown below, but his title has an S rather than an R In the fifth digit. I think that Ferrari made the error from day one when it was first registered.
I have run both VIN through Carfax and neither one of them shows up at all. Which does make sense since the VIN on the car has never been registered.
can anyone assist as to where this car was first sold, so I can contact the dealer directly.
Please feel free to call me at 416-802-9999 David

I’ve run into this - not with Ferrari’s but other cars and bikes…

Contact your local Secretary of State - they’ll send out an inspector, then issue a new title to match the VIN on the car.

Colorado requires a physical VIN check anytime an out-of-state vehicle is registered for the first time, instead of taking the VIN from the out-of-state title.

I've always thought it was a giant PITA, but in this case something like that would have caught the issue...

    Thank you 19633500GT!

I agree with your second number which is what is physically on the car. I’m in Ontario and it’s quite easy for me to have the ownership/title corrected to reflect what the VIN actually is.

I suspect this error was made the day the car was registered by the dealer for the first customer and the error has just continued along unseen.

Is there any way for me to find out which dealer sold the car new… my thought is I may have to reach out to Ferrari head office to get any farther

You definitely need to speak to Ferrari. There must be something a little strange going on because both VIN combinations (S or R) show as invalid when you check them for recalls. You can start with your local Ferrari dealer who should be able to print out the record for it from Ferrari's Modis system. That might show the supplying dealer but probably won't but it should confirm the VIN Ferrari have.

It would also behove you to check that the door jamb plate (pictured) the dash/window plate, the steering column plate, and the VIN actualy stamped on the frame all match.
