We have two weeks until we have to listen to Derek Daly talk over the Monaco GP. Indy 500 time trials were washed out completely this past weekend, so they will be filling most of the field this coming Saturday. This is still the largest single day sporting event in the world, and the thought that IRL and Champ still have a chance to merge for 2007 is encouraging.

Who do you predict to win the pole, and who will be the other two front row starters.

The poll is for the "pole".

I'm not even sure who is racing in the Indy 500. I'll just say Wheldon wins it from pole.

Edit: You think the 500 gets more viewers than the Super Bowl? I'd even make an argument that the Daytona 500 now has surpassed the Indy 500 in viewers.

The Indy 500 is still the largest single day sporting event in actual paying attendance. Le Mans is a close second, an likely some World Cup matches are right up there. Daytona is probably in the top five with its 150,000 attendees.

Only because there is no football field where the field is 3/4 of a mile long and will seat 350,000, LOL

If you want a better perspective, the Super Bowl draws more paid 'fans' than any 1/4 mile oval race. :)

What do you mean who will win, , , HONDA will win....!

They win the HOndanapolis FiveHonda every year. And guess what, when Honda bought the HOndanapolis FiveHonda, , they forgot to purchase Memorial Day. Ha!

How many Ferraris are in the HOndanapolis FiveHonda...?
    How many Fords...?
There are more American Cars, , fords...etc, , in F-1 then in our Greatest Race at our Brickyard....!

(Sorry, Whew, I will get off of my soapbox now..)

As much as i hate the IRL, it's not honda's fault that all the other manufacturers pulled out

Lessee I predict Penske will be fast and immaculately prepped, Andretti story will get planty of air time, the girl will get lots of close ups, but she's married now.........and I'll STILL be wearing a hat and jacket from my neighbors at AJ Foyt Racing!! LOL!

"Yea, Mr. Foyt?......let me have a helment and that third car....we can DO
    THIS!"

I'd agree that the engine deal throws the series all the way back to the Oldsmobile beginnings........IRL and Champ Car have risen/sunk to equality in that regard.....wjere did everyone go??

Oh yea, there's this thing called NASCAR.....;)

    I guess that's why we're all F1 fans!

Not to quible, but I think the Brickyard 400 gets a better turnout. Never-the-less, there is nothing like being at the track at the start of the 500 with the entire pack of open wheeled cars going 4 wide at 200+ into the first turn! If you are sitting in the lower box at the end of the main straight, you get pelted with rubber like a heavy rain. The first time, you will never forget it! Go Castroneves!

Honda didn't buy it, speed costs money, and nobody is watching anymore, so the other folks pulled out. You stick 300 million in a motor program, someone else finds 30-40 horse (more than you), and the pressure is on for you, in turn, to find 50-60 more, or the hot team running your motors has no choice but to switch if you can't find the horses for them, the costs escalate, you play leap-frog, it's not worth it. See: Illmor, Menard, Mercedes, Judd...

Give me a DFX and Tom Sneva in a March 83 anyday.
