Yesterday on the way home my drivers side indicators started flashing too fast.

On inspection the rears are not working but the bulbs are fine.

Have checked all fuses they're fine.

I don't know too much about electrics, anybody any ideas.

    Cheers Si

    Yes.

On the back of the (plastic) rear taillight housing, there is a U-shaped metal piece with 4 male spades that hold 4 wires with female terminals (this is the "ground" network connection for all the rear lamps) -- try removing/reseating the 4 female terminals onto the U-shaped piece (90% chance of problem).
If that doesn't cure it, measure the resistance from the U-shaped metal piece to ground -- should be low. If not, follow the 1 wire from the U-shaped metal piece up to where it attaches to the bodywork/frame and clean/reseat that connection (10% chance of problem).

I fiddled with the wiring, did nothing specific and hey presto they work again, must be a bad connection or earth. Will hold onto your info to use in case it happens again:D

I've found the same thing -- when just trying to look into an electrical problem you end up disturbing things enough that it can affect the situation.

One thing you didn't mention is if having the brake lights and/or running lights "on" made any difference in your direction indicator operation (it did in my case -- i.e., direction light flashed twice as fast when switched "on" alone, but went out completely when the brake lights were also switched "on"). However, if your direction indicators work well with the brake lights and/or parking lights "on" now, there's nothing to fix ;).
