Keep me posted, Tim. I'd love to get out to California again. It's been a while. Last time I was there, The Beach Boys' current hit record was California Girls.
Yeah. And this song was moving off the charts... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nztxd92hl0g[/ame]
I used to use clear removable contac shelf liner. I used it on my Z4 and put it on the day before driving to Vegas for the track days with the Porsche club. Worked great and left minimal residue like blue tape. Looked better than blue tape or track tape and cost $5 for a roll that lasted me all season.
Based on my limited experience i would say that you will incorporate more damage driving around your cities. Just respray your bumper every 5 years. Not much debris out there even when people drive off the track.
Even if you do get a few pecks, it's worth it. Paint is cheap. The memories are priceless. I guess nobody on their deathbed said "I'm glad I didn't get any rock chips"
Well I did feel like a pu$$ie all taped up but for certain the "tracktape" is proof of concept. Vince was cringing that I would take the beauty queen on track knowing how I can beat a car within a whisker of it's death. But we proved you can take a queen to the track for some exercise (5/10ths driving), have fun, and get no damage...not even a rubber mark on the paint. So there is no excuse for not taking it to the track.
Nah! Don't feel that way, FBB. You did a good thing for your 550 by taking it out on the track. If there's something around to protect the car then it's appropriate to use it. Track season is over here in the Northeast. We already had a dusting of snow a couple of weeks ago in The Catskills. The season opens next year at Daytona April 14-15. I hope our paths cross in Florida in a few months. Barry
I would love to get on track with you some time. Unfortunately my racecar will be back in California soon. Runoffs at Daytona were a blast but I could not break 160mph on the straight. Fishing around Daytona and in lake lloyd was a blast. Next time out east will be 2016 Runoffs at Mid-Ohio. But I really want to go to WGI. I need to rent a racecar and we will meet there!
Watkins Glen is my favorite long road course, FBB. And it was repaved in the past couple of months. I hope they captured all the small nuances in camber that we learned. FCA is back at WGI April 27-28 and September 2-4 in 2016. Hopefully then.
FBB is not saying that it took him the better part of 2 hours to apply his Saran Wrap to the front end and that's including additional Stooge assistance. Of course he was properly heckled throughout. His car did come out clean, but honestly, assuming you stayed on the track, I did not see too much other than rubber pieces on our cars' fronts.
Anyone try the 3M 90000 Paint Defender spray on clear bra product? You can spray it on like paint and peel it off. I haven't tried it yet but considering it after I get my bumper resprayed. Wish I had tried it before the last FCA Vandenberg run. It looks like my front was sandblasted.
Good thing Mitchell didn't show up or I'm sure you guys would have given me the ketel award just for being the only wrapped up ferrari.
in the old days they made black fabric bras. P-bugs ran them all the time. The problem was where the ends flap on the car would often chafe the paint. Because it takes so long to tape up a car and is so costly using "track tape", I would love to have a fabric bra that could be put in in minutes and under the flappy ends put a strip of tracktape. You would have the best of all worlds. Your car also would not look as dumb all taped up.
My previous 348 Spider had a Colgan bra and it was pretty nice at the time. Now you never see anyone running around with them. It fit snugly - you had to leave it in the sun to warm it up for fitting - and had velvet covered bendable tabs to fasten it inside the wheel wells. I could chaff if not installed snugly. Also, sometimes sand got in behind it and it worked against the intended surface protection. Once in a while you had to stop and refasten it. What a pain these were - and not exactly cheap either.
That stuff sounds good considering i could have used it before my victoria trip. Sandblasted my bumper through banff national park. If it works would be good for any roadtrip of distance. Find out some more Peter.
