Marco really did a great job for such a young driver, Andretti or otherwise. I think he raced Hornish very clean and he should be proud of that.

Yes, between that and the Monaco GP, I just bits and pieces of the earlier stages of the race. I most of the later parts of the race, and it was great. I was really hoping Danica would edge her way up there, like they said she would. I was very, very impressed by Marco Andretti, also. I never thought he would do that well in his first Indy 500. At the end, I was actually hoping that he would pull it off on the final lap, but I'm glad he did the classy thing and didn't block Hornish just so he could get the win. Great race.

Meh, didn't care for the race. Probably watched 3 laps total. I saw why Marlboro doesn't advertise at the USGP once I saw the winner's circle for the Indy 500. Looks like they save all their sponsorship time for this race.

    Terrific race.

Marco Andretti really impressed me throughout the race. He would've been a worthy winner, just as much as Wheldon, Kanaan and Hornish Jr.

It would've been perfect poetic justice if Michael Andretti, the greatest Indydriver never to win the Indianapolis 500, were to take this victory with his son taking second in his rookieyear.

But Hornish finishing the first time in six starts and actually winning it, is something nice as well.

The race should be only 10 laps and have only 7-8 drivers.
That is how many exiting laps I saw and how many drivers had a chance on wining. All the rest is horrible.

    I enjoyed it.

There sure is an amazing amount of debris on the track when one of those cars crashes. How did that one guy manage to run over the wing on the track and send it flying into the crowd? That could have been really nasty!

If I'm not mistaken, Marlboro can't advertise in sporting venues... Part of the tobacco settlement thingy.

I thought it was a great race. I was also impressed with Marco Andretti. There were so many great drivers to route for: Danica, Michael A., Marco A., Castroneves, Weldon, Kanaan... and even "Mad" Max Papis. Papis ended up holding his own around 14th the whole race.

That's fine, but you're ignoring the fact that it took 190 laps to weed the field down to those 7-8 drivers and last 10 laps. As we saw during the late pitstops, a lot can change on and off the track.

They sponsor Hornish's car and it was all over the place on their team, too. I think the rule is a tabacco company can only advertise on one series. Maybe it's limited to 1 race a year, too.

Impressive driving from a 19 year old rookie. Let's give him a little more time to grow and develop and see what he can really do. If he can prove himself to be really that good, maybe we, the Americans, can finally be that lucky and have a real driver in F1 in a couple of years. If he does go to F1 in the future, I hope he has more conviction and be more dedicated that his father, Michael did with his missed opportunity.

PS: It has been a while since I follow Indy, I lost interest in them soon after the split. Anyway, I had no idea that there are so many 2nd generation racers in Indy these days. Of course, in case of Marco, he is third generation already.

I think Marco did an awesome job.. I didn't see him put a wheel wrong the entire race. The fact that he finished and commented "second place means nothing" gives me even more hope. :D

I was rooting for Townsend Bell but it looks like he made an error coming into the pits and was suspended after lap 140~. Still a strong showing and he did have a very impressive pass mid-race.

    You missed a great race.

As for the Marlboro logo showing, its an intentional agreement as tobaco adverstising is not allowed in this country. Only one team has the right to show this sponsorship in the USA, and that is Penske.

I would be either. As a competitor, you want to win. I am glad to see him disappointed and pissed, as it will motivate him more to do better in the future. Hopefully he can become a driver that his family and USA can be proud of.

One thing that impressed me: considering that this was one of the hottest Indy 500s ever, there was very little mechanical attrition, and the drivers all managed to make it through the heat all right. I think this speaks highly of the car design and preparation and the fitness of the drivers.
