These races are so damn boring. Tried to get into it at the start of the year but gave up a couple races after the Indy 500. The cars are so slow and underpowered, sound like total crap, passing is minimal, etc. The last two races have run entirely without cautions because the cars are so easy to drive. Snoozefest.
the ovals have been great this year but the road courses have been pretty uninteresting (St Pete and Long Beach were decent though). and the cars sound good in person, similar to the old CART turbo cars. but I do agree (as do most of the drivers) that they need another 3-400 horsepower.
HAHAHA...Indy thread troll. Great result for Rubens...P4. Glad to see KV finally starting to get the car together, but I fear too late for them to get Rubens to stay... MB
You're reaching... Can one not voice his opinion on the series after watching several races of IndyCar this year? The only other poster that apparently cares about this thread agreed with me, anyway. Nothing in my post was directed at you, so please, get that inferiority complex in check and calm down. Nice run from RB, what's that move him up to in points, 16th?
That would make it more interesting (possibly bring back some fans, which I think many feel the same way I do). However, I'm sure management is scared of any power increases after Dan Wheldon's death last year (RIP). Right now, though, the cars have too much grip at the current power levels. I totally agree that with another 3-400 you would see some sliding, mistakes, and passing.
I have a feeling the current power levels are more manufacturer driven than Indycar driven. hell, Lotus can't even get to that power level and it appears Chevy can't without blowing at least one engine per race.
I went to the first indy car race in Long Beach after F1 was pulled. The races were great, the cars looked good, sounded good, and the action was almost exciting. I stopped going when Cart was disbanded around 2003. I stopped watching on the tube when they decided to use corn fuel. Yesterday I gave it a try again, watched the pre show, the start and all the ads for about half an hour. Needless to say I then turned it off and watched Golf.
I tried to watch the race and get excited for the race in Baltimore. Couldn't do it. I think I turned on HGTV instead.
Thanks for the advice, Jr. About two spots ahead of where Schumi is in F1 but then Shumi has been worrying more about how to catch up to his teammate for the last three years Sadly I agree partially with your statement about more horsepower, but then you said there wasn't enough passing and I almost had milk come out of my nose. F1 historically has been constantly railed on by all of us who are F1 fans for not enough passing, so that doesn't hold any water.
You're welcome. WTF? That's not even true, Schumi is 12th in the F1 standings, Rubens is 14th in IndyCar. (By the way, RB's teammate is 6th, in case you didn't know) With all do respect, are you off your meds? Why is F1 being brought up into the conversation? What "argument" doesn't hold water? I never made any argument on behalf of F1 vs. IndyCar. Besides, if we have to go there, there has been TONS of passing in F1 of late. Even when there was a lack thereof, F1 had other redeeming qualities to make up for it that IndyCar lacks like world class drivers, world class tracks, world class constructors and world class lap times.
I've seriously tried to get into the Indy Car season but there just seems to be something missing. It's almost as though the series has been declawed after losing Dan Wheldon and they're all walking on egg shells now. As has been touched on, the broadcasts are horrible. Straight away, they get us revved up to see the race at 4:00PM but that's when the nearly hour long pre-race starts and I'm immediately over to MotoGP or FIM Superbikes on Speed. If they can't do their pre-race narrative in 15-20 minutes something is wrong. They're borrowing too heavilly from NASCAR in that sense when all they need to do is tell us who's on pole, set the grid, brief course description, set the points championsionship, green flag. Wasn't Bob Jenkins retiring after Indy? He once again was bumbling over himself and on several instances his colleagues corrected him immediately instead of waiting for the director in the truck to correct him in his ear phones. Jenkins simply must go, put Robin Miller in his seat and let's have some fun. The racing itself isn't bad, just unspectacular. The cars would definately benefit from additional HP but they also appear to be very draggy on the straights so the races are processional and uneventful. They also need to quit tinkering with the rules son a race to race basis. It's almost a miracle if a week goes by where they're not fine tuning one rule or another, again much in the mode of NASCAR. Cut it out already! BHW
Disagree entirely. I like how everyone posts that they switched the channel and didn't bother to watch the race but then say it was boring and there wasn't any passing. How do you know what when on if you didn't bother to watch. Sonoma: Rubens started 11th and finished 4th, Graham Rahal from 13th to 5th, JR Hildebrand from 15th to 8th, TK from 16th to 10th, Wilson from 20th to 11th, James Jake from 24th to 12th. BUT there was no passing????????? There has been a ton of passing in IndyCar this year and there are many fans who love the new car and have loved the racing this year. And btw, I want a 45 minute pre-show because I want to hear what the drivers, reporters, announcers have to say.
This is a long read but I think you'll enjoy it. http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/2012/08/28/california-dreamin-indycar-impressions/
I've watched several races this year in their entirety. The only entertaining ones were Indy and Texas, IMO. When passes happen, they look like they're in slow motion...and what's with the different tire compounds that are virtually identical yet the announcers make the biggest deal over whether someone is on the "red stripes" or not? It has no bearing on the racing at all. Seems like everyone runs the same times on both tires. I think the biggest turn off is how every chassis is identical...there should be at LEAST two options like the CART days of old. I gave it a fair shake, but until there's more HP it's just not for me. The cars are so ugly they make step nose F1 cars look like beauty queens in comparison (and that's saying something). They should also race on a couple more ovals. Typical knee-jerk reaction to get rid of so many after Wheldon died. EDIT: And Robin Miller....WOW. How this guy has a job in broadcasting is beyond me. What a goon.
When was the last time anyone was excited about hearing Will Power won? Helio Castroneves ? Dario Franchitti ? ( Nice guy, but a little boring...) Simon Pagenaud ? Sorry am I keeping you guys awake? Didnt think so. Briscoe... ? Sebastien Bourdais? (I actually watch just to see him get beat.) I got one! Marco Andretti! No wonder Danica had a ride for so long...I hate to say it fellas but she may have been the most exciting driver in the field...and I am not a fan of hers in the least bit. We need the cars to be more exciting if the drivers are going to be the vanilla.
Good read and I can’t imagine anyone not falling in love with these cars when the go to race for the first time...but the entire series, cars...drivers...sponsors...are all flat right now. I hope it changes. I miss the violently fast and on the edge of disaster cars and the men that made it exciting to watch from the past.
