    Chiefs were playing away, no?

the sad reality is NASCAR tracks are half empty because nobody wants to go anymore.

Does not matter for a team like the Chiefs. If it were a low level team then maybe. Have you watched a race recently? The stands are back to good capacity but nothing like they were in 2000. That will never happen again.

I watch segments of races here and there. saw the last 30 laps at Kansas. watched most of Darlington because that's a great track, always puts on a good show.

fans have come back a bit. ratings have improved too. but you're right, late 90's/early 2000's will probably never happen again.

Plus all those tracks built in the late 90s early 2000's fall in the 1.5mi to 2mi range and offer the same boring racing for the most part. Those tracks did not expand Nascar but probably hurt it overall with a bad product. If anything Nascar should contract from so many races especially two at these types of tracks. Plus I hate the dirt they have tried to bring back. Its not the 50s anymore and their are dirt track races with dirt track cars anyway. Like all business they are sniffing for dollars and not a quality product. Being an Intimidator diehard fan, nascar died 90% for me on that fateful day. All the knee jerk reactions that have come from it but thats a different thread. I really like what Indycar has evolved into over the last 10yrs. Great racing.

The way I read it, he might do some selected oval races; at least the Indy 500.

I was there when Gene Felton ran some NASCAR dinosaur at LM in the early eighties. It was way off the pace but the European crowd loved the big cake sound of the engine.

Gene ran a Trans Am/IMSA GTO Camaro at Le Mans. IIRC that car had won its class at Daytona earlier that year

in 1976, two actual NASCAR Cup cars ran: https://www.24h-lemans.com/en/news/1976-when-the-24-hours-of-le-mans-and-nascar-crossed-paths-16520

    I love this pic :D

The last event of 2022 at Road America using the whole track was yesterday, 10-2-22. The repaving crew started arriving just before 8am today. Not mentioned much....the repaving will include widening to 40'. It's 30' now.

Nice that they are repaving one of my favorite tracks but widening to that extent will change the character of the track and make some corners like the kink less challenging...while shortening the distance between track and barriers...unless they are planning massive safety upgrades.

You're right, and making me question if I am mistaken about the widening. No safety upgrades that I've heard.
Do tracks get widened only in certain areas?

I checked with Road America....width stays the same. Apologies for bad info.
