i would like to know what are real values for indy in europe wich version are more desirable and the reasons to prefer one version to an other tks
any indy owner expert around here? i always liked the design and the fact the indy is a real 4 seater, i do know little about these cars though and would love to hear some opinions
Hello ! A couple of years ago I was very intrested in buying an Indy, most because of the possibility to travel with 2 children. As far as I know it´s always better to buy a late car, avoiding the "Citroen era" although. An Indy America seams like the best buy and most of all..... a car without the terrible "box" in front of the passenger. Prices ! The prices offered is high but the prices, as far as I know, on closed deals are way lower. An Indy America in pretty good shape was offered here in Sweden recently at approx 25k EUR. I was near to buy one in Belgium, partly restored at price 25k EUR. The reason i didn´t buy is, to be honest, the design. The Indy is not a great looker. I saved my money, bought an Ferrari 412, going to wait a year or so and buying an Ghibli instead next year. Good luck with your hunt. There is a couple for sale at www.mobile.de You can also look into "Enricos Maseratipage" for information and cars Ulf Rickard Sweden
tks you for the answer i agree the ghibli is a nicer looking car, few cars look better the indy is not ugly though and the interior is nice (i happen to like even the "strange" 4200 dash ) i have to say i am interested in the possibility to accomodate 4 people since i already have a couple of 2 seater cars and the indy is something different do you think 22k euro is a right price for a good 4200? or this kind of money should buy a good 4700?
This one is nice looking Emilio, i think ex Espada owner and forum member Patrik Gudmundsäter knows/helping to sell this car. http://www.blocket.se/kalmar/Maserati_Indy_4700_America_1973_26767837.htm?ca=15&w=3&last=1
looks nice how much euro does it translates? i am going to look at one in few days that should be a VERY nice restored example
In my opinion the most desirable would be either a 4.7 or a 4.9 liter engine. Power steering is very desirable as is the 5-speed ZF manual gearbox. The very last cars had 15" wheels instead of 14" but they also had Citroen brakes which many people fear (although I think they are fine). There were three different interior designs and it all a matter of personal taste. I happen to like the last interior design. As for prices; check anamera.com and mobile.de Ivan
Hello,Nice to see that people listen to my advices regarding Maserati Indy! Look for Rust!Floors, doors etc.Check electrics.Mechanical wise-are they stabe cars, but small things like rubber sills etc has to be changed.Check for leaks of water on the front window rubber seal, that tends to leak, and water-if it rains leak in to the electrics. AC,seldom works, but the compressor is often "On"all the time, and in some cases has ceased to turn, making the engine to stop. All 4,2 Cars had Servosteer as option.Dont Misstake the 260 HP 4,2 to be slow, that engine is more rev happy. But the 4,7 America might be the best compromise. Gearboxes seem to be working ok,if the arent missused. The Girling Cluth slave Cylinders need to bee ok,or changed.Check for leaks,or you cant change gear!Same on Ghibli 1. The Carbs need to be tuned 100% ok,or the car wont run ok.Check that the Petroltankchange mechanism works.
Also,to get better brake performance, buy Cabotech Brakepads.Makes wonders for the old Gal.People has problems with the 4,9L Citroën brake system, and even try to rebuild to Girling due to problems with parts. We had from what i learned about 50 Indys in Sweden ,but how many are left now? The Silver/Bordeax 4,7 is a wery nice Car,pampered all its life. You can see it on my Youtubepage,as I helped to sell it once. This guy will start racing again and need to have funds for that.He has 3 more Maseratis that needs attention also. Price Could be sold for 270.000SEK or about 28.000 Euros. www.youtube.com/tonewheelduderacing Facebook Maseratisti Svezia
Here is the link for the Swedish Silver/Bord. Indy. http://www.youtube.com/user/Tonewheelduderacing#p/u/39/5LYSBrHm72o
broker just called me and told he is not working with the seller anymore...mmmhhhh he told he was constantly changing his mind on price and more...mmmmhhh seller should have my phone...let's see if he will call me p.s. it should be a nice 4700 car, silver-black, restored, used for not many miles and stored since few years, hope to hear from him
Decent-looking Indy coming up at the Artcurial auction on 9 July: http://www.artcurial.com/en/asp/fullCatalogue.asp?salelot=1855+++++103+&refno=10311483
...and this one too: http://www.artcurial.com/en/asp/fullCatalogue.asp?salelot=1855+++++155+&refno=10311482 Ciao! Walter
Walter, the Indy you referred to is stated as a 4.7, but the VIN shows it should be a 4.9. If the engine is not original it should affect the value negatively. Also, it states that it has a rare sunroof. I'd venture to guess it is an after market add-on. Regards, Larry
Hello Emilio: You now have several reasons to come to Le Mans Classic the best historic meeting in the world, only every two years: not only are there two Indy's in that auction but there will no doubt be several Indys in the Maserati club enclosure so you will be able to examine them up close, talk with the owners etc. I have a great fondness for Indys as one was the first Maserati I ever rode in as a kid. They are the quintessential GT with beautiful sports car lines, incredible room for a family and luggage -which means your wife/gf can't nag you about lack of space, great visibility. look for rust which is definitely a problem they are known to have. I remember seeing horribly rusty ones 30 years ago, however those were very neglected cars; there are some very healthy ones around. A 4.9 America would be my choice, avoiding red. The Citroen brakes you can learn in 10 minutes and they are a security asset as they cannot fade. One thing that also matters with Indy's is that the interior is very visible form outside, hence it needs to be in good condition or the car looks ratty. Good luck and best regards, Marc
tks guys! a friend of mine directed me to this nice one i always liked the interior and design and i think they are very good value (lot of car for the money) on the other hand i am also interested in early carbed esprit lotus ( i know ...not much space inside, but nice light cars) i have to say for my next "classic", whatever it will be, i would really like to get an italian papers car this time...after 3 cars from outside Italy, 2 from outside EU, in 5 years (and one still to be registered here ...) i almost had enough of papers and italian burocracy at its "finest"
Well,a good Maserati Indy,,regardless of its engine,is a wery good buy. A ghibli is not more fun to drive, just more expensve, and with less space. If you are looking for a Italian Vintage Car with Caratcher, the Indy is the one to buy. I had a 4,2-and it was faster then many 4,7 and 4.9,wich means that a healthy tuned engine-refering to the Webers,is a big key to the difference between a Breeze and a Tornado! Also Ingnition must be right, there is a dual system there. Intererior is often quite worn,so a good one is desirable.Servo steering is a nice option. Test drive the Car!It shall be stable as a rock on the road, even in 160 Mph or more. New and good tires is a must,if you have old ones-even if they look good-discard them! Buy fresh rubber!Gearbox shall be like a Winchester rifle.Brakes must be good, citroen brakes if it has that,is like all or nothing story. If you push the accelerator, the car should move-fast!With a loud sound!Lots of torque. You can drive it docile also.. Still a Cracking Car-and i miss mine
interesting i too believe these cars are underrated, i also believe a good tuned one should be a lot of fun and somewhat more usable than many classic italian cars i remember an indy was tested neck by neck with an espada by ruoteclassiche and was as fast as the lambo (if not more)
INDY are fantastic driver cars with lots of space for the "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" and they are very fast when well sorted due to the very good aerodynamics. Still undervalued. The INDY is a nice Maserati - but not a great one! Ciao! Walter
I don't doubt it. The Espada is not a quick or particularly fast car. But it has a much better chassis than a Ghibli or Indy. The Indy's all have high quality interiors too. Really nicely done. I'm just not a great fan of the live axle Maserati GT cars. They feel so truck like. Bob S.
Correct point! One of the most critizised point of the Ghibli-Indy-period was the live axle while Ferrari went on to a more modern design with their 275GT-series. The Espada has the far better chassis and suspension than the Indy. The faster speed of the Maserati comes due to the long rear end and the "negative" line of the front section that gets the airstream perfectly over the car. Very efficient - but lot visually attractive. Ciao! Walter
i do find the indy design to be nice while not being too flashy it is not as beautiful as a ghibli of course...BUT we should not forget it is a real 4 seater! you can fit 4 people in it...in all honesty how many "4 people carriers" looks better ? so it was a very good job by Vignale in my opinion the interior looks pretty also i found the test of a 4900 performed few times ago by ruoteclassiche the car was clocked at real 240 Km-h! and was also slightly quicker than a espada on all acceleration timing i will take a look at it on monday, i will let you know
i saw the car is a 4200 model with a 4700 incorrect badge the interior is veeeery nice, redone but as new and the 4200 dash is to me very cool with the passenger pod the body almost perfect beside some very minor bubbles on the bonnet, front arch mecanic has been redone by Candini some 8 years ago they ask 35k euro...seems hi to me....opinions?
35 is too much offer 25 and let them think about it. High twenties should be the maximum according to what you describe. If they poohpooh your offer show them how many Indys are for sale in Europe (print out the internet listings and show them) mainly because people keep advertising cars with excessively high prices whereas in the US asking prices are more realistic and things happen much quicker. That is what i have seen over and over again. If you want an independent inspection and feel that Candini having done the work would be biased ask Franco tralli in Bomporto, 10 minutes east of Modena to do the inspection for you including compressions etc. The Candinis are wonderful people, I like them a lot but in this case they would have to side with the car's owner so that is why an inpsection by Tralli would be a good idea...this being said they are distant relatives(!) however if Tralli sees anything alarming in the course of the inspection he would tell you. Good luck! best regards, Marc
