Title says it all. Is there a inexpensive scanner that scans ferrari 360's that shows F1 clutch wear/life? I recently bought a 2004 360 with 19,000 miles and was told there was 70% clutch life left but would love to verify and monitor clutch wear.

The clutch life reading is an approximate number. One scan tool will tell you 70% the next will tell you 50%.

Secondly..don't put to much faith in any clutch reading from a clutch you have never personally had installed. That wear reading can be easily manipulated with creative use of a couple other parameters to bring the wear percentage to where somebody may want it.

3rd..a worn clutch can also be masked buy adjusting the PIS so the clutch slips a bit longer in order to disguise chatter etc.

Best way to know if a clutch is good or bad..the seat of your pants. As long as you have driven enough cars to know the difference. That is where an experianced shop can help you with the real info.

The Autel AP200 is a good / low cost option. Under $100.

Even if the absolute clutch reading isn’t the best to go solely by, having a tool like this is useful to see relative readings to see how your clutch is wearing over time.

A key for consistent readings is to make sure you are looking at it under the same conditions (eg temperature).

Yes that is it, I have one of those also, but FYI it may not tell you the clutch wear directly. I have a 430 and the clutch wear line in the report is blank when I run the scan. You may have to use the clutch wear formula based on the clutch position numbers the AP200 will give you. I found this formula in the forums, and it did align with what the Ferrari dealer stated the wear was when I bought the car, so I believe it to be accurate.

100 * (Clutch Position Closed - Clutch Position Closed from New) / Clutch Thickness = % Wear on Clutch

The clutch thickness is 8.5mm for 360 and 5.6mm for 430

Just plug the two clutch position numbers in from your AP200 and you have your wear %

To get Remaining Clutch Life = 100 - Wear on Clutch

On my report Clutch position Closed is line 25 and Clutch Position Closed from New is line 33.

Before you get too excited .. i always recommend the ap200 (white one old version ) and/ or thinkdiag

The issue is depending on model year and version of tcu you may or may not be able to connect

You do have a late model but right now i cannot remember what the cut off was

Maybe someone else with better memory can chime in

Don't trust the wear index you read there. You need to calculate yourself : {[(clutch position closed)-(clutch position closed from new)]/5.6}x100

In my case it is 10.76% clutch wear; however accurate that might be. I think it is relatively accurate, the shop that did the PPI inspection quoted me around 9% clutch wear... then the car got up on the transporting trailer , backed out in reverse slipping the clutch a lot.. etc. seems accurate

he has the 360 so I believe you divide by 8.5 instead of 5.6

The wear index is something else completely.
It’s a calculated measure of how much slip the clutch has. 4000 is said to be ideal. Anything less and it’s gripping more than that, anything higher and it’s slipping too much.

Actually anything from 2500 to 4000 is good ..it is constantly changing based on driving habits on the last few drives

When you reset it ..it goes 4000 iirc

I have seen numbers in the low 100s and even lower ..(not sure if tool or real) and car behavior is normal ..most likely tool is incorrect ..just a fyi

Mine seems to be decreasing in time as I keep reading it... It was 26xx when I got the car, now after 1000 miles it is 18xx.. is that bad ?

just means you are driving more in gear than off the line .. no slippage when just changing gears
    I consider it good

I look at the data point only if really high and see what else is causing than -- bad PIS , bad habits etc, etc

    Look good..about 17 percent wear

What year 360 and /or tcu do you have

The launch and the thinkdiag share software so if you were able to connect that is a positive sign

It’s a 2002 eurospec, I think it’s a diagzone computer, real finicky on the TCU connection, it’s a marelli cfc201f, I’m also looking for a better computer that does a lot more than that. The one I have will not do relearning clutch and bleeding, it has a problem reading the VIN, like a missing connection somewhere. I have tried to do research on this but no one knows

The next step up would be a Leonardo or SD tool.. probably better spending your money on a CS Tcu upgrade / reflash and then your tool will communicate better and you will have a better feeling / performing F1 system
