Does anyone have photos of the car in its racing configuration and racing? https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/Details/148896/ferrari-dino-246gt-vintage-racer
SO, AS IF WE HAVEN’T HAD A SENSE OF SOMETHING BEING A BIT ODD..... Evan Williams is the supposed owner of said Dino. He has raced and shown the car multiple times since 1992. He is the seller and 79 years old..... I find this a bit odd, here are a couple of “Evan Williams” easily to find bits of info and he doesn’t look 79 years old: Also, an nice article by him about Dino’s https://www.autotrader.ca/editorial/20170315/find-of-the-week-1973-ferrari-dino-246-gt/ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
AND..... What are also the odds back in the OLD FerrariChat site days (2003) that some weird emails surface and are being talked in relation to an experience had, BUT a Brand New USER who happens to use the name “Evan Williams” pops up and as the first post if defending the situation using the exact type of wording? Hmmmmm.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
After continuing to look and research, I think the younger Evan Williams is not related to the seller although there are such interesting overlays of information. The seller Evan Williams took over the racing organization from someone named Dave Williams, but supposedly for as much racing the Dino did, it almost hardly shows up anywhere
from the picture the chassis no. plate looks very much correct for an early M-series... doesn`t look restamped or manipulated to me... the deepening where the actual number is stamped not unusual! here a picture of #01290 for comparison Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was looking up Dave Williams and came across this article. Not sure if these are the same people, but Dave has a son named Evan. Maybe just a coincidence. Not sure how the ages line up with what you know about them. https://toronto.citynews.ca/2018/11/02/dave-williams-flew-to-space-but-faced-biggest-challenges-on-solid-ground/
Sounds like a very generic name to me (even the Dave/Evan pair - Williams is just too generic of a surname), and google always finds you what you search for (which is not necessarily what you are looking for). I'd be more interested in what the approximate value was back in 1985 when it was stolen, to explain the (lack of) due diligence done by the buyer - which may be explained if it was sold as a race car (wasn't it a challenge perhaps, in those days, to get pre-smog equipped cars road registered?). To me it sounds like the current owner (who must be 60 years or older if he owned it ~40 years), bought it from the shady man-in-the-middle. From the racingedge.com advert: - Same owner and driver for almost 40 years. 2024 minus "almost 40 years" brings it back to ~1985. Anyway glad to see one "long lost Dino" back in the open.
