New to the Ferrari forum, I have had many sports cars over the years now looking at the FF. I have heard many good and bad stories about the FF. especially the PTU transmission. can anyone be honest and let me know if an FF would be a good purchase or a money pit. What should I look for?

I’ve had one for 3y now. 2015 FF. No ptu issues. The warning lights did go off once. I took it in. The dealer for a new one quoted me 55k, the refurbished guy quoted me 20k up from what I thought would be 6k. On a hunch I took it to an ex F mechanic. He flushed the ptu, tightened some lines and hoses, topped up the battery all for 600 bucks. Haven’t had an issue. Lots of crooks (dealers particularly) out there so be careful if u have an issue. It is expensive and it’s a wait to fix rims/ get tires, and all the leather is ripping apart even though stored inside. Fun to drive. Low mileage another (known) issue. Hope u get lucky.

Just got it in April, had some issues and turned out to be the PTU, sent it off to hollywood mechanic in LA to fix... also had him flush the dct fluids and do an oil change and a few other things 10k out the door for all that. I have driven it about 1500 miles since april, hoping to put a lot more on it going forward, as it was out of commission for a while. I may have a DCT issue but not sure yet. Hopefully not. Got a kline full exhaust on order as stock it is fairly quiet.

Insurance is like a hundred and twenty a month I think? I dunno, insurance and gas are inconsequential costs to me but its a thirsty beast, probably get about 15mpg lol

Hoping to put at least 3k miles a year on the car going forward. That would be a lot of driving where I live since everything is so close.

100% get one, I traded mine for a Bentley when my second son came along so I had the extra doors and space for him but, I absolutely loved my ff. Due to how good it was I will certainly buy a v12 Lusso when he is a bit older

My wife had both FF and Lusso. Bar none, I think they are just great. Legitimate Ferrari feels with the glorious v12 engine. FF is more raw than Lusso. Lusso cold start however is still very classic with the V12 sound. The ride feels the same. FF is just a tad larger with better materials used but Lusso is way more modern design. Yes, PTU will likely bite, but it is no longer as expensive as it was. We drove more than 15 thousands miles in each car. Dropping the kids off at school and reving it for the curious boys checking out the cars right in front of the principal is just priceless.

100% get one! I picked up a 2016 from another FChat member about 4 months ago. I’ve put on about 2500 miles so far. No issues yet, and very daily-able if you want to. Amazing car. The v12 is glorious. Exhaust is a bit too quiet for my taste, so unplugging the exhaust valves is a quick $0 remedy for that. Sounds much better, but not intrusive at all.

taking my fiancé and 2yr old with a child seat out for a drive up the coast with my local FCA chapter tomorrow.

Other way around - the Lusso is very slightly larger assuming you meant external dimensions.

You won't regret purchasing an FF.
Make sure that the car is well documented and all maintenance has been carried out on time and seriously.
The normal annual costs are not too bad. However, if you experience malfunctions or special repairs, it can get expensive.
I have had the car for 4 years now and have had no major breakdowns.
By the way, FerrariChat is a very valuable way to find out more about the car.
    In short: buy and enjoy!

Interesting, it must be a combination of the very slightly different shape and increased sound deadening.

Even before you buy your FF, join the FCA. You can go to events and talk directly with owners.

I put off getting one for a couple of years out of the same concerns you expressed. Two years ago I got my first one. Like all the posts I read beforehand, I wish I would’ve done it earlier.

Just took delivery of my second FF today. Took me a while to find as I wanted specific interior / exterior color combination in a 2016. You will absolutely love this car. I like the analog feel vs the Lusso. The engine sound is to die for. Use all the regular car sites and set up alerts... I also like using BaT as a general gauge for pricing. Be ready to jump on the right one when you first see it. I believe prices are still going down after recent used car spikes.
