Looks like TX has gotten a lot more strict than I remember it. Front plate enforcement... smog and safety inspections now?

The 360 is running Fabspeed headers, testpipes and Tubi. I don't know much about the smog process (never had to do it). Can anyone shed light on this...?

Also, my 240Z is running a 3" open exhaust turbo back.. I guess it's smog exempt at 40+ years old?

Front plate is problematic. I'd say at least 70% of the f cars don't have plates. There is a long thread on front plates on this texas forum. I'd suggest reading that, it's recent.

As for emissions testing talk to Michael at Moorespeed. They do this all the time and have a lot of experience knowing what will pass and what won't. I live just east of Austin and don't need smog testing, just safety.

I do not want to trample on your thread Rnye so I will keep it short regarding emissions testing. Are you in the position to remove the test pipes and reinstall the cats as this could be an option for you. I know a lot of people who run standalone EMS's lean their cars out for testing but I do not think this is an option for your 360. Also there is the visual inspection and I can guarantee you that a testing facility is not going to risk their license plus getting fined.

The state test is around $40 and as Bob mentioned the Texas thread is chock full of information that can bring you up to date if you are new to Texas. I am uncertain if not having a front plate will effect you but it may. So I can end on a positive note take solice in knowing that as of 3/1/2015 inspection stickers are no longer required so one less sticker to deal with BUT vehicles will still be required to have a yearly emissions check/test.

I hope this helps you. Oh and yes your 240Z-T does not require a yearly test (post some pics in another thread for us ok?).

    Regards,
    Gregg

Well this sucks. We JUST put the exhaust on.. what, 6-7 weeks ago? Of course I still have the OEM stuff... If anyone knows of other possible options please PM me.

Perhaps the low mileage waiver will work? Says less than 5,000 a year..

Taken from another website from someone in TX....

"In order to qualify for the low-mileage waiver, the vehicle had to have been previously inspected and passed in the state of Texas so that they are able to establish how many miles you have driven between your previous inspection and your application for a low mileage waiver".

Play it safe and call the DPS for verification.

Nobody mentioned it, but the emissions standard is also waivered on cars over 25 years old. This also depends on what county of Texas the test is done in.
