I have had a 360, CS, 430, and now a scud but was thinking of buying my wife an older 612 and I know very little about them. I was looking at a few 2005 cars - I know that was the first year of the 612 - am I making a mistake with that year?

    Thanks

I traded my 430 for a 612. I much prefer the 612. Admittedly very different, but I am blown away with how good the 612 drives. The GTS package is a substantial improvement; sport exhaust (don't buy one without it; it may be the best sounding contemporary Ferrari after a CS), faster F1S gearbox, sport suspension, wheels. 07/08 seem preferable and have come down hugely in price. Happy shopping.

Get an 08/09 OTO.. Has all the creature comforts that your wife would want and with the prices coming down so sharply on them, they can be purchased for a steal!

Agree on the sound of the 612! As well as on the sport exhaust.

Best sounding modern Ferrari (bar the F355).

One of my close friends is selling his '06. It has the HGT-S package.

I know people are divided on the looks (darker colors help in my mind), but its very very quick, and in my opinion drives extremely well.

I have a 08 OTO and I recommend it if u like a 612 for her, but I never liked the transmission shifting during city driving, I even think the 430 is better suited for that job. But it's awesome during spirited driving, F1 tranny just not ideal for a daily, u better off with a bentley or maser for her.

She has had two Masers already - she wants a Ferrari for Ferrari events and to just enjoy - then we will have a cruiser in the 612 and a tracker in the Scud - there is a 2006 Ponsi(spelling?) blue at Silicon Vally F dealer that I really like - are the 2006's OK

"One To One"-- Ferrari used it to mean that all 612s would be built to a customer's order, rather than being built for inventory.

then thats easy, get a 430 for her.
it drives better, about the same comfort level, and good deals can be had now.
if u really like a 612, get a 08' or newer with the new improvements. Its stupid to buy the 612 thinking u will use the back seats, because i only used the rear seats a couple times. I have a sedan and suv for that purpose, im sure u do too.
i have 2 430s, a scud with the 612OTO at the same time, i compare them daily in normal driving, and i have to say the 430 is easier to drive and the tranny has less po-going than the 612. since ur wife is used to big cars like the Maseratis then she can do the 612 just fine, because its like an S-class long.
But i love them all the same.

When the 458 gets here, i can really relax and get rid of them all! I heard its as comfy as a 612 and faster than a scud??!!!
    now........ thats saving money!

Can the 612 group go back the original posters first question about the year 2005 612.
Any reason to stay away from 05?

    Best regards,

dont think there is a specific reason to stay away from 05s but the 08 and 09s have alot more goodies...exhaust, wheels, carbon breaks, etc...

The only issue with the 2005 was a sensor in the transmission that needed to be replaced. There was a service bulletin where Ferrari would do this at no charge; you want to make sure the 2005 you may be looking at, had it done. The whole transmission had to come out to replace this sensor, from what I understand. No other issues that I'm aware of. Others, please chime in if I'm wrong.

I drove a 05 did not like it.

Then drove my current 06 612 with the HGTS package with Daytona's and later upgraded OTO screens and 599 20" polished wheels and tires.

I am not a fan of Ferrari ceramics. So it was the perfect car for me then, now I want a 16M or a CGT.

The 612 is the best looking car I have ever seen period. It is not offensive unless you really want to offend someone and rev that V12 - Best Ferrari sound bar none IMO
