Info Wanted: 1997 BMW Z3

My first thought was I feel out of touch with time -- a Z3 that is twelve years old? I think you got good advice on your original thread.

I remember sharing the tram with a BMW mechanic one morning with him remarking about the 'amazingly' high miles on the Z3 cars he serviced.

Just this weekend I replaced the valve cover gasket on my '99 528 that has 160K miles. I went through three headaches under warranty for security system related stuff (worthless and I don't want it anyway), total cooling system replacement (2007), and now the valve cover gasket (brittle/destroyed). Otherwise very smooth and care free sailing.

Maintenance, if not doing it yourself, depends a lot on the conscience of the mechanic. A BMW is after all just a car and like a Ferrari repairs can be correct and smartly done or correct and expensively done.

Probably the only down side to the car is that it was made in South Cackalacky .

I know someone who just sold one about that year. I know he liked it but it was time to go. Now he has a Toyota SUV.

 

actually I was way off on the year. I asked him today and he said it was a 2001. But I remember that he started wanting it when he saw it in that movie and drove the salesman at the dealer crazy with test drives.
