A friend of ours owns a high end butcher shop and he is a dealer for Tek grilles. They are on the high end of the price point. He said you can cook a 1 inch thick steak to medium in <2.5 mins per side. They cook at 900*. They sell a small tailgate one for $700 but the larger one is in the $4800 range. My dad just got the Char-broil one, bought a smaller one for like $350.00. He said it cooks much better then his previous open flame one. He lives in SC so I have not used it myself for a comparison.
Just bought a high end natural gas BBQ that has an IR side burner...........it seems to heat up quickly and do the job the 2-3 times I've used it so far.
