Anyone catch Tarantino's new flick? I just watched it the other night, and while I'm by no means a Tarantino nut-hugger, I thought it was absolutely amazing. Christopher Waltz (SS Hans Landa) gives an Oscar-worthy performance (I will be seriously surprised if he doesn't win an academy award for his performance). Samuel L Jackson makes a cameo as well... 5 Tarantino films for him.

Christopher Waltz was amazing, Brad Pitt was annoying, and the whole thing was a great big bloody funride to hell. Did you notice the vocal cameo by "The Wolf"?

Heck, the first segment alone is worth the admission, the actors are amazing. I understand from a French-speaking pal that the wordplay in that language was excellent, full of subtlety and puns that didn't show up in the subtitles. I suspect the German was the same.

Violent, long and not what I was really expecting, but two thumbs up. LOTS of talking, so for those who aren't into that beware.

I liked Brad Pitt. I don't think anyone else could have played that role, and I'm dead honest when I say that. It looked like he was having a lot of fun, he kind of had a smirk on his face the whole time. There were a lot of comedic scenes. I was in tears when Landa made them repeat their names in Italian. Also the chemistry between the Bear Jew and his buddy when they were at the theatre was fantastic. Opening scene... what can I say other than WOW. Honestly, Waltz just raised the bar for actors EVERYWHERE. His performance was nothing short of epic.

I need to see this movie again.

Now I really want to see it. In Ebert's interview with Tarantino, QT said he's kept this script alive for about 10 years, and primarily because of that first scene.

The Italian speaking scene was absolutely priceless! Inglourious Basterds is, dare I say it, as good as Pulp Fiction!

Saw it nay but a few hours ago. Thought it was absolutely great, bit violent, gory at times, but its all in good humor!

Couldnt help but guffaw at the Landa's pipe in the first scene! Jesus, that and "Bon-gourno"

5 stars, As good as Pulp Fiction, but that will always be his Magnum Opus.

    See it!

For me, 3 out of 5 stars. Good film, just not fantastic (and I love WWII films). I will say I think it's Tarantions best film since Pulp Fiction (most have been junk since I think), though not near as good. I thought the film needed about 30mins chopped out. Characters that were introduced were never really fleshed out (British spy, German spy/actress, Stiglitz etc.). They were given a little bit of back story but never really did much of anything. Even the Basterds themselves didn't do much. Here they are supposed to have this great reputation and other than bashing some dudes skull in, we never see much of their adventures.

One thing I found funny, Brad Pitt has been quoted as saying Tom Cruise's Valkyrie film was "ridiculous". That's in it itself is ridiculous, as the whole ended/theater was absolutely ridiculous and completely unrealistic (apparently the 1000 SS bodyguards that Hitler had took the night off for a major public event--in 1944 no less). At list Valkyrie was historically accurate. I guess real life is just too ridiculous for Pitt.

I enjoyed the film, (Landa character was awesome) and recommend it, but for me it is not as fantastic as everyone else seems to have experienced.

    Definitely worth a watch though.

Jennie and I saw it Friday and that says much, because we have seen about one movie a year since Mia was born. We both liked it, but it wasn’t up there with Pulp Fiction. The first scene was the best and the bar basement was good. The outdoor scene could have been a little better although some great parts. Not sure what I think about the theater scene, maybe I was worn out by then or just too over the top. The entire theater clapped, but almost in a lynch mob type of way venting after 65+ years since the holocaust.

I enjoyed it. No moral high ground really given to anyone, even the Americans. Everyone did just about the worst they could do to everyone else. Sometimes they deserved what they got, sometimes...maybe not. Also, historical accuracy pretty much just thrown right out the window, but it's Tarantino, not the History Channel.
I will be seeing it again.

That was an interesting part of his interview. He said that it's obvious he took historical liberties, but doing so allowed him to create a different movie instead of every other War movie where, ultimately, you know the outcome. There were no assumptions about any of the characters this way.
