I'm changing the injectors on my 83 Mondial QV and have found that there are 2 types of seals available, 1) is Bosch #1280210711 and generic NAPA #158-0020. they are differant sizes. 1) is smaller in diameter with larger center hole diameter and thinner ring diameter. it fits loosely on the new injector. 2) is fatter and fits tightly on the injector. Or are they both wrong?

    Thanks
    Dave

Thanks to all that responded. I found out myself by taking it apart. The 83 doesn't use any. Just a large seal.

Could you elaborate? I am trying to resolve a seal issue on a 84 Mondial.

    Thx

On the '83 QV and from what the maint manual says, the 2v and QV '80-81-82-83 the "injectors screw in". I don't know about the '84 but it is easy to tell and see. Look at one of the injectors and see if there is an aluminum piece about 1 1/4" in diameter with the hex portion of the injector inset. I will post pics tomorrow. No "O" rings are used. The rubber seals are about $5-6 each at GT parts. The injectors are from Injectorsonline.com from Austrailia, took about 3-4 days to deliver.

What I found was There is a threaded boss with a large rubber insert that the injector presses into. You must pull the injector out through the rubber insert then remove the boss with a 12mm allen wrench. you can then 1) either replace the rubber or use the original in the boss and 2) press the new injector through the rubber while in the boss, pressing the hex head flush with the rubber (which is inside the boss), then 3)screw the boss and injector unit into the manifold tightening the unite without damaging the brass or aluminum.

I made a puller from a piece of pipe and a cap screw and a female fitting, a bunch of spacers and a nut. Takes about 5 minutes to pull each one. You must pull the throttle body to get to the center two.

i have a small prybar with a flat curved end. 8" long and used that with the injectors still attached to the lines. pulled out the injectors in less than 3mins total. to reassymble i had to ofcourse seperate the injectors from the lines but since the lines were off it was simply vise the injector and unscrew.

to reassymble i used some wd-40 to put the seal on the injector then from the inside i slid the assymbly into the metal housing and was done. took less than an hour to replace all 8 injectors and seals, off~on again.

Right, it's easyer than it looks or sounds. The hard part is the two center rear.

Out of interest did you notice any performance difference before and afterwards, I read that they are supposed to be changed every 40k miles as they start to wear out

I immediately noticed smoother idling, fast starting after sitting an hour or so, faster startups every time without the poping and backfiring like it's flooded both warm and cold.

I believe that my Mondy has aproximately 44k miles on it. The speedo was changed at 17k by a dealer. I thought that the fcars came with steel Bosch injectors, mine had brass ones so they may have been changed before. I changed them because I had fixed all the leakdown culprits and cured hot start problems except long 1hr+ leakdown hard warm start. This cured it now I'm not hesitante to go places cause it'tl start now.

I am now a self certified Bosch CIS injection specialist. Fortunately there isn't any electronics involved, its really a logical easy system.
