Hey guys - first post on here,

Am the (very proud) owner of a 94 355 which I bought about 6 months ago. Have had the opportunity to drive her about 6-700 miles this summer which has been simply amazing and the realising of a long held ambition - but now its time for some maintenance !!.

One of the jobs I need to do pronto is an inner CV boot. I've had a look at the write up on here and my question is can I do that job by removing the driveshaft from the box and just detaching the hub "as one" I e driveshaft still attached ?.

Can that work ? - or has the shaft got to be removed from the hub come what way may .

    What do we think fella's.

Great forum by the way everybody - am delighted to be part of it frankly !!

    Cheers

    Laurence

Ha, that was the first bit of maintenance I performed on my F355 after I bought it as well.

Buy your boot from Pelicanparts.com, an old 911 boot is the same part and is under $10.

It's nice to work "on the bench" and I wouldn't want a bulky upright and hub to contend with while R&Ring a boot. The axle nut is easy enough to remove but pry the indented portion out of the groove in the end of the axle first.

    Welcome to the Brotherhood!

This is a messy job that is best done on the bench, with a bench vise, fully gloved, and wearing dirty clothes. Take the drive axle out of the car and mount it on a bench for this.

You may find that the axle is stuck in the hub. If so squirt a liberal amount of lubricant between the axle splines and hub opening. Let it soak several hours repeating the use of lubricant a few times. I just did mine and let it soak overnight. If still stuck get a large 3 finger bearing remover and press the axle out. Once the rust/corrosion set is broken the axle will come on out.

Have you loosened the bolts holding the axle to the trans. housing ? If not suggest you get these loose first. There are several threads on the best way to do this.
