This has been on the market for an incredibly long time. Wondering what the story is on the car? Any input greatly appreciated. 1992 Ferrari 512 Testarossa | Yucca Valley | eBay Classifieds (Kijiji) | 23700710 And yes, they really want you to show up with cash. And no, I don't think its a scam.
White on White - very rare color combination, but that could be part of the reason it's still for sale. I think it looks very nice, but would I want to live with those colors day in and day out? I'm not so sure. The price seems very good....therefore there must be more to the story....
I took a look at this car early last year and passed on it when she was firm at $66k. It was in decent shape but she insisted on a PPI only at her mechanic 3 hours away (she also wanted me to pay for the flatbed tow both ways). It definitely needed a lot of deferred maintenance and the a/c blew very hot. No books or tools and a plastic replacement gas cap. The stereo was 90s tech with extensive speaker additions (lots of matching white leather on the enclosures). Very nice lady who had lost her husband recently. She also had a Viper and 930 Porsche for sale. Also she would only accept all cash. I think I still have lots of photos I took if anyone is seriously interested in the car.
I posted a few here and emailed the folder of photos I have to Drew (email size is over 7MB in case anyone else is interested). It's been a while since I looked at the car but I now remember that it did have the books and leather case, but no tools. She had a few receipts from the last service which had been done about 7 years before. There was a very big amplifier under the carpet in the trunk. Also it was missing the front black spoiler lip. The rear window was cracked in the corner. Overall, the paint looked good and the interior was in surprisingly good shape for having so much white. The black upper dash had turned white from sun exposure or age. Would definitely recommend good sunglasses on a bright day. What's the story with her only allowing a PPI at her own mechanic 3 hours away? Sounds very shady hearing this story second hand.
I was following this car when it was on Ebay a year ago(?) before I bought mine. Im willing to guess she had a bit of grief to deal with.
i was the one that had carchex inspect the car. it ran fine but had no a/c, stonechips in front of the car, and some wear on the driver seat bolster. i really liked the car and i offered $65K but they wouldn't budge at $69K i believe at that time. i found that quite expensive as i'm sure it will be needing a major service and a lot of other things. plus the biggest factor is she wanted to get paid in cash or separate wire transfer of $10K or something like that. she was willing to get it PPI'd but wanted only BlackHorse in LA to do the work since they were the ones that used to service the car. anyway, i think at below $60K, you can get this car running properly and still come out on top. i actually like the color combo.
" So any 512 with gearbox number 1370 or later will have the forged differential housing. " What number is on the gearbox ? Picture is just an example ... Looks N 148 or could it be N 148X ... it does make a difference ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
The 930 was a salvage title that had been stolen and bought back from the insurance company. It was in decent shape with low miles but needed a lot of little things and if I recall correctly she was asking top dollar for it.
Well, I'm going to say she doesn't really want to sell it. I've made several offers now and my latest was at one of their asking price from the last time they listed it. I offered to give a deposit that day, pay for shipping to have it inspected and if the inspection passed (less than $5k in additional service) I would wire the balance. She passed on my offer. Said she had someone else coming to look at the car this weekend whose price was $2k higher than mine. No deposit, no guarantee. They really pushed that no inspection was a lot easier for them which I guess the other buyer was ok with. Not sure if its someone here, but good luck. Oh well, on to the next car.
Drew, you can honestly say, "you tried". And a good one at that. If the presumed 2k higher buyer flakes, you may get a call yet. However, you may have also found a better car and more agreeable seller by then. Either option works!
I know I'm beating a dead horse, but three days after they said they would get back to me I get this: Drew, It appears that the owner is uncomfortable with transporting her car to and from LA for the inspection. If you are still interested, we can discuss it some more next week if the car is still available, or she will accept a cash offer of $60K before the other interested party examines the car this weekend. Regards, Marcus
I'll follow it up with this: Since moving to LA I'm continually reminded of that scene in get shorty where chili Palmer keeps saying, "I can't believe the way you people do business out here."
Except that this poor guy may be dealing with his fair share of irrationality, and it is very hard to rationalize accordingly. My hopes are that this - or superior car - finds its way to your garage!
Thank you, I appreciate it. I actually have a deal on another car - my old TR. It will be great to get her back in the stable!
Just tried to inquire about this car and pursue looking at it. They refuse to disclose how the antenna is installed and what it will leave behind when removed. They just said why would you want to remove it you won't be able to hear the radio? WOW. Nobody in the market for that car wants that massive dumb looking antenna sticking out of the windshield. So it may need a windshield repair or replacement after removal.
I was thinking/looking at a TR with a cracked window at a dealer. Ricambi wanted $5,600 +/- and they charge extra for shipping in a special container. The REAL problem I hear is that installers don't want to install it for fear they break it. Why make a few hundred to install a TR window and risk paying $5,600....
