Porsche market is insane. Regular 911s are fetching such high prices. Nothing makes sense anymore.

Doesn’t make sense on the surface, but looking around the market the 911s (especially the air-cooled, in my biased opinion) are unique — well made, great heritage, exciting to drive, etc. They are a vanishing breed. Not rare when new, but as we move into an EV future I know I was eager to grab a piece of a very cool past.

That, and I look around at the $100K SUVs and other disposable stuff on the market and $100K for a 911 seems a fair value.

Great looking 2018 white GT3 at Marshall Goldman’s for $215,000 with a sticker of $175,000. It is what it is I guess but I just am not excited about paying that.

I saw a slant nose at a local beach a few months back. My Dad ordered a new one convertible in 1988. Black on black. Someone saw it at the dealer the day he was taking delivery and offered $20k over what my dad was paying. Forget how much now. Think my dad was paying $115k CDN. He took the profit and bought another 928S4. Slant nose has always been special, they look much better in person.

That makes me very ,very happy as In December I bought an original owner 1987 Factory Slantnose ,option code 505.930 Targa Turbo in mint condition to keep and drive ,but $$$$ in the bank!
It'll share my garage with my 1996,993turbo--mine since new- with 31k.

Money in the bank on nice low mileage 1994-964s turbo and 993 tturbos-may not be meteoric but I'll bet a better return on $475k than in next 3years of any Wall street investment.-not to mention the joy of owning and driving one!

Much as I love 964s… this feels steep.

Might as well fix the cracked fuel warning light, lol.

Anyone buying non-limited, non numbered cars now as an investment is just asking to be caught holding their **** in their hands when the music stops.

As the saying goes, "When you come across a fool with money...get all that you can get."

My point is a original low mileage well cared for 1994 -964 turbo or similarly 96-97 993 turbo will not depreciate much if at all over next 3 or 4 years.
I"ve taken a 20% haircut in the market in the last 6 months and my show car -original(owned since new) 96 993 turbo has appreciated at least 20-25% over the same period. And the joy of owning one of these beauties can't be minimized.

That’s the problem… you could cash out, but then the garage is empty and the joy is sold.

If I break even on my 911, all’s well. I don’t count on anything more than that.
