Who's trashing the Mclaren? People have a right to like or dislike something.

In the end there all fruit

Oh god not the best of the best theory again.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder my friend, your are entitled to your opinion.

Don't be so nieve, every automaker is out there to cash in on your dreams.

As for Enzo Ferrari, well a lot went with him good and bad, after all he is human.

Getting back to the OP, the stats from Autoblog are very enticing. Definitely, I think it is important for the 12C to be quickest in the segment. Macca knows that everybody will focus on the numbers and the inevitable comparo tests with the 458 and Gallardo, so I believe they will use this time to make sure it is faster. In fact, I'm sure they will procure a 458 and Lambo and perform many objective tests themselves.

The curb weight is very impressive and, in my eyes, important. I was expecting the 458 to lighter than it is, but alas should have known Ferrari would "leave room" for a Scud version. Of course, I am sure McLaren will drum up a lighter version of the 12C at some point, as well. From what I understand, they still have room in areas (i.e. carbon body panels) that they did not take b/c of cost to benefit ratio. If they can release such a version before the inevitable 458 "Scud", that will make things very interesting, indeed.

Either way, I am enthused that the 12C may influence the decisions that Ferrari makes with future product development. Let's be honest, for the money that this segment demands, it would be nice to have a car that is appreciably faster (around a racetrack, at least) than a Porsche 911 or Nissan GT-R. I know that Ferrari can rise to the challenge. Lambo - not so sure, but like I said, it can only make things more interesting.

Beyond the straight "numbers" (braking performance is also supposed to be amazing), other features that stand out for me are the emphasis on seating position and line of sight (these can make or break how comfortable and confidence-inspiring a car is to drive on the track) as well as the carbon tub: The lightness of the tub is cool, but adding a margin of safety is also worth $$ on my scale of benefits.

No politics? Hardly. Even Dennis said in his presentation that the 1600 potential buyers have already been "pre-screened" to be acceptable to McLaren and that one of the questions they ask them is what previous cars they have owned.

This directly from the horse's mouth.

If that isn't politics about who does and doesn't get one and when, I don't know what is. Not everyone who wants one will be able to buy one if McLaren views them unacceptable -- whatever that is. And, if you're not on their priority list, be prepared to be at the end of the cue. Sound familiar?

Excuse me, but I'm not sure where all this attitude is coming from. If you have directly participated in the process then you will know exactly which questions in the initial questionairre and follow up telephone call(s) they were referring to. As for "pre-screening" I can say from direct experience that I never got the negative impression that you are implying in your note. I believe in the press conference, they said they had over 1600 qualified firm intents to purchase (or something to that effect).

That is a direct reference to a couple of questions in the original questionairre where they asked us to tell them how interested we were in the car: (a) Very interested/going to buy or (b) just curious/please keep me in the loop. The follow up question was what cars you've owned in the past 5 yrs.

We all know "lists" have their fair share of squatters on them who back out when it comes time to commit. I've never gotten the impression that I'm not worthy of a McLaren because I'm not Corsa Clienti. If you've had a number of new Ferrari's and are a 458 prospect then they are very interested for obvious reasons. If you answer that question with a long list of Hondas and Kias then obviously they aren't going to take you as seriously and I think that's a fair assumption this early in the process.

Its a tough market and I am pretty sure they are not going to copy their competition's sales tactics. At these prices, buyers have a lot of options so who cares if you don't factory order a McLaren or a 458. I can buy a Carrera GT and enjoy that while I wait for a better price on the McLaren or the 458.

I'm also in the "I like it" camp. I love the profile from 3/4 rear.

True as well. It should be successful overall, with performance like this. It may take a few places off Ferrari's waiting list. And I don't find the styling offensive. It's not exciting but it does the job, sends the right message.

Interesting observations. I just watched a video about it and the name is the most idiotic sounding thing and based on the most sterile reasons. And they're excited about saving 2.4 grams by embossing the Mclaren logo on the dash instead of using a badge. Do they not realize people actually like touches like that, esp. on a $200K+ car??

The worst part was the engine note- average and disappointing.

I think this car may end up in the Porsche-Lambo crowd: always faster or more powered than Ferrari but not as good.

It will be interesting to hear real world experiences.
