Can anyone be good enough to post a picture or description of the correct type of door seal used on a 1979 GTB. It's the one on the inside, fixed to the car the full way round.

I'm ordering a few new rubber seals from Cicognani but the one they show for the door seal looks different to what may be the original seals on the car which are 'closed loop'

    GUARNIZIONE VANOPORTA DX/SX (SET COMPLETO)

    Much appreciated

    Alex

    Hello Alex,

Ive need to change the drivers side on my 79GTB, its ripped at the bottom, I notice that Superformance sell the part but not sure if its going to be correct? Mine has a pre-moulded corner top rear, I would imagine that now the corner will have to be mitred, I look forward to anyone elses comments / recommendations also.

    Regards Phil

    Hi Phil

Yes mine are joined along the bottom half way along the kick plate and very poorly done looks like they tried to join it with a cigarette lighter.

If you see the parts page attached, yours is joined at the correct location.

Mainly I wondered if anyone had the correct profile section, Superformance are great but you never quite know.

    Many thanks [IMG]

The image on the website does not correspond to what is fitted to my car.

Thank you that photo is very helpful. Also the drawing shows the seal the company in Italy are selling is incorrect.

Not sure how to achieve the folded seal, but will investigate.

    Thanks again

Looking at my photo again, I think the folded seal is just part of the closed section overlapped and split at the back and rolled, if you see what I mean. Its been there 38.5 years so its pretty much formed to fit now with the imprint of the door.

It's hard to describe but it looks like the rigid part was cut to butt up against the horizontal part of the seal, but the closed section left to extend beyond that an inch or so, then that extra closed section split down the back so it could be unrolled flat, and then tucked up behind the other closed section. Presumably theres a spot of glue in there to keep it together.

That all makes sense, thank you.

It's great to see a photo of the original way it was done. Really helpful. It looks like the sam seal Superformance do sell, so I shall order and then give your photos and description to the guy fitting this. I'm not going to attempt, I'll just send up messing it up!

    Thanks again, really grateful

Sure will. Car is off to Bob Houghton on Wednesday for a few bits including these seals, so I will be keen to hear how he will achieve the correct corner join.

    Will update you

    Cheers
