I have done a fair amount of research and would like to install a Bel STiR in my '95 GTS. Has anyone got experience? There is no depth to the front "grill" in our cars for mounting there. Is there room behind the bumper for the receiver (it is about the depth of a standard windshield mount detector)? That would likely be ideal for concealment but may have some minor performance trade-off.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    TIA

    Hello Steve,

I hope you are well :)

I have no experience with this particular unit but I can share that 2 of my cars have K40's and the jammer on one is mounted in the front grill but the radar unit is mounted inside the bumper so apparently it works through the plastic. It's off to the side and not on center as I don't believe there would be enough room.

Here is a picture of the front bumper off - maybe this will help you. Perhaps there is enough room but if you can mount if off to the side you may be able to do it without removing the bumper.

I found a front receiver mounted in my brake cooling duct! I used to be big into detectors when I did a lot of driving up and down the east coast, I finally settled into the Valentine 1 detector as my mainstay.

Today, with the widespread use of "instant on" radar and newer cars with lane monitoring radar, the detectors just don't give the same protection as they did in the good old days. Lots of false alarms, even on K-band now. I still drive with a V1, but I understand its limitations. Heck, here in SC the interstate speed limits are 70, but traffic has become so heavy you cant speed! Our Troopers are big into "instant on", so any back road speeding is at your own risk.

I have an Escort Redline. I agree that that K-band produces a lot of false alarms, to the point where I ignore it. But here in FL, I've yet to see a speed trap where K-band was being used, though perhaps still used by small town police. I've yet to get a false alarm for Ka-band. When the Escort blares about Ka, it's invariably a speed trap and I get plenty of warning . . . so long as there are other cars on the road. But I agree that if you're the only one on the road, the instant-on Ka-band radar is going to nail you before you can slow down sufficiently . . . like on those quiet stretches of 77 between Rock Hill and Columbia.

Thanks Dave. I think I will go ahead and order the STiR.

I have the 9500 ci installed in my 355, no problems.
I have the 2 jammers mounted perfect in my grill, can't even tell they're there because of being so low.
It works awesome here in BC ,send me a pm and can call you if you like about how to install and where I mounted it inside.
Shop around, as I got mine for less in Canada here.
