I have a 1977 308GTB. I just installed a new clutch, throw out bearing, resurfaced the flywheel, new rear seal and pilot bearing (new rubber "O" rings in bell housing etc).

The problem I am having is that even though I made all of the adjustments to the clutch linkage as per Ferrarichat and the mechanics book (aligned the hole in the bell housing to lever #1 to achieve the 6mm misalignment and adjusted lever #4 to allow for the 2mm play that the throw out bearing needs) I have too much peddle play. I have about 2.5” to 3" of play till I feel real pedal pressure and I cannot get the clutch to fully disengage

Here’s what’s weird, I had some one push the pedal in while I was under the car and watched the linkage play out. Once the pedal was pushed all the way in and held in place, I tried to move the linkage by hand and there was no other room for movement. The top of lever #1 was about 3/4" from touching the bell housing.

I even started the car in gear and drove around the block thinking that something is sticking in the clutch but no help and no change in the way the clutch is not disengaging.

I have a real soft pedal and the clutch will not fully disengage.

I bought all the parts through Ferrari dealers and had my original clutch rebuilt to factory specs and bench tested for correct operation and clearance

You're new here. Some guys get slapped by their wife, sworn at by their kids, and ignored on the job, so the come to FChat where they can talk freely, act big, while saying near nothing. Yes, the fellow posts 13+ posts every night. How do you accomplish that year after year? Simply by making snide swipes of questionable relavance and help. When reading threads take a gander at the number of posts of the author...it is helpful when you question someones technical authority.

My clutch has already been changed but I'm curious to know the answer. By email or pm machs nix.

There's several clutch plates in the market for other cars that match in diameter but NOT overall material thickness.......

IF you had been running 308GTBs as long as I have you might have that tidbit of knowledge, and if you ever installed one it'd NEVER work!
I was trying to determine that before moving on to, maybe ....Step 2.

Sorry if I interrupted your fumbling under your car....carry on!

Thanks to my defenders, it's really no large deal, to me....

I got this post count hanging out in the Zupra Cafe!!!

What I really like about the internet is that it offers a lot of useful information that I can learn from. The few problems I have about the internet can be forums. A lot of people use them to make weird comments that only frustrate people who are really looking for help and have no need for lame or useless comments. If Bigtex is really as talented as you all say he/she is then he/she needs to learn some manners and not treat people that are looking for help improperly.
The one thing that I did notice, I did not receive any responses to my problem or any one offer any real help to bring my problem to a solution. I am not too worried about losing out on Ferrarchat. The few times I have visited Ferrarichat, Ferrarichat has learned more from me. So far I have not been impressed. Like all forums I have visited, they all look like old women talking over the fence.
Before any of you go responding to this. Do any of you know the story of the Good Samaritan? If someone is getting their ass kicked, your first response is to help the helpless man out, you guys joined in on the ass kicking. More compassion is what we all are in the need of, not the lack of. Edify!

Are you sure you attached the spring correctly to the TO bearing. Did you take the lever off the ratchet. Those are problem I can think off it has been a while since i replaced mine. Post some pics of the linkage. If the linkage is attached properly and adjusted and you have not messed with the pedal linkage. I sounds like it may be something inside the bell housing that is wrong. My car had parts it was not supposed to have and parts missing and it still shifted. It sounds to me like it is not adjusted properly. There are certainly better experts than I on this list, hopefully they will chime in.

Really? I took some time and read all 29 of your posts and I would have to disagree. I paid particular attention to the 5 threads that you initiated and each was a call for help. In fact, the majority of them are titled, "how do you . . ." or "what is the purpose of . . ." I don't post here much but I visit daily and I take notice when folks like BigTex or Rifledriver comment.

I really don't work on them at ALL........

Maybe sparkplugs, and alternator or battery....the odd split cooling hose.

What I do is drive the f^&%*& out of them!!!

Sorry if my brief comments were seen as unhelpful, I have this as a side screen at work, I rarely take the time to write long explanatory posts.

If I can help with a suggestion, I do......

I know when I have been hog tied. Sorry for placing you (Bigtex) in the same catagory as a time waister. My fault. You obviously have some great people out there that think a lot of you and your help. My appologies...Greg

Plus any one that can do that with duct tape is alright in my book.

NO worries........the first thing my 308GTB did after I got home was blow a header and catch fire.....

I knew then I had really bought a hobby!!!! LOL!

Right against the gas tank too....and I missed my Driver's Course and had the pay the ticket....LOL!

I left the car with the Fire Department, in case it flared up after I left.....
