I just got a Sirius FM mobile combo pack and want to put it in my new 4Runner. What level of rocket science is involved with the installation? Is it easy or should I take it to an installer?

I don't get it. He's asking a serious question. Just answer it. Is it difficult to do or not? Besides being disrespectful, what does "joking right" mean? That it's so easy he must be joking? Clearly he's not.

My advice: take it to an installer. $100 and a couple of hours later, you are all done, and you have someone to take it back to if you have problems.

I thought the unit works off the FM tuner (88.1,88.3, 88.5) so there is wiring to performed? I looked at it over Christmas but the only thing I didn't like that it wasn't completely portable & small like an ipod. I'm sure one will be coming out though soon enough if it's not out already.

I got the home kit also, so the head unit can be taken out and used in my home office, etc.

I put the Clarion sirius tuner in my car when i installed a clarion desk. With this setup it's easy as can be - just attach the antenna and the cable to the head unit. I put it under the passenger seat next to my amps. Power even comes from the HU. On yours though you might need to run an extra 12V wire, which is usually done through the firewall.

Got myself a Sirius Starmate this afternoon and just set it up.... wanted to try it in the house before I put it in the car. Only have to plug in the power adaptor, antenna and computer speakers so it really couldn't be easier. I thought the activation was gonna be almost as easy. I tried to activate online three times before giving up and calling the 800 activation number which you apparently have to do in order to activate online which just seems bizarre.

Will probably put in in the car tomorrow, just gonna use it through the FM radio for the time being. The hard wiring process looks pretty simple in principle though I suspect it will be slightly more complicated once I start taking the Vette apart.

If you want to have it hard mounted to your dash, then I would have an installer do it. They can tap into a power source so you dont have to use a cigarette lighter, and they can hide the antenna wire real well too. It's a very easy install for them to do, and it only takes an hour or so. I'm having mine done in a couple days, as soon as my home kit gets in.

With my XM radio I use the cig lighter and just put the antenna on the roof going out one of the back doors since my back seat is never used. That is as easy as it needs to be.

I took it a little further and tapped into the cig lighter circuit and added one inside my center console so the radio stays inside of there, I hardly ever change stations on it so that is fine for me and the car looks stock. I drilled a hole in the bottom of the console and ran the antenna wire into it. It transmits the audio to the radio wirelessly but the problem with this is when I travel to different areas I end up getting static from radio stations I come across so I have been using a tape player adapter.

I have been wanting to get a new head unit with XM built in but have not done it yet.

My friend had hers installed at a local stereo shop and it is much cleaner and is hardwired to the car. They came up with a way to custom mount the radio to where it blends in with the interior and there is no wires anywhere to be seen. If you are not going to be using it in other cars or if you don't want any wires laying out this may be what you want to do.

XM has this out with the myfi and just introduced new models at CES.

Sirius, from what i've been told, doesn't have one that you can listen live on yet. You have to record to it and then you can listen on the go with it.

You probably have the some one that my dad and I both have. If it's one of the plug and play ones, just take the time to mount the antenna and run the wire where it won't be seen. Then just run the power wire out of the way and you're set. Not too hard, about 20 minutes of work. The hardest part is determining how you're going to run the wires without being seen.

Difficulty depends on which system you have. Coming from a professional installer of ten years, these are not that hard, just a little time. If you have a unit with an external FM modulator then you have you have to get into to your dash and wire the modulator in line with the radio antenna. If the system has the mod. built in then it's a matter of putting the antenna on the roof, and plug the power cord on the cig. plug= your done. Any further info about the system would help with the explaination.

Installed Sirius in my wifes Pacifica and my pickup a few weeks ago. Just mount the antenna at the back center of the roof and run the wire in through the brake light. Then just tuck the wire along the weatherstrip and roof liner until you reach the front of the car. I assume you got the Sportster model. I mounted mine at the lower passenger side of the front window and control it with the remote. That way it doesn't inhibit your view and the blue screen can be overwhelming. The FM modulator wire I ran along the base of the windshield. I run the power off of a lighter/acc. outlet and ran the wire between panels on the dash and glovebox to reach the outlet. First car took about 1.5 hours, second took 35 minutes.

I just got one myself. It is quite easy, if it is the plug-and-play variety (where it transmits through an FM frequency).

The most difficult part is the antenna, running it from the exterior of the car to the interior of the car in a clean and and discreet way, so you will probably be tucking it under weatherstripping.

Side note...I have the Clarion Calypso unit and the FM signal that is broadcast is strong enough that every radio on each floor of my house picks it up. I was at Radio Shack today and the guy told me they "Fixed" that problem. Seems they don't want people only buying one unit for their house so they are making the transmitters weaker.
