    I have encountered a recent problem with my Mondial's instruments.

    First off, the fuel gauge is now reading aprrox 1/4 less fuel than there is in the tanks. It was reading empty, but the warning light never came on. By my recent mileage, I suspected that I had at least a quarter of a tank remaining, but stopped at the gas station anyway. When I filled up, the gauge sloooowwwllllyyyy came up to the 3/4 level and stayed there. Any ideas why?

    Also, when I shut the car off, the tach never drops to zero but remains around the 1000 rpm mark, and the speedometer does not drop below the 10 mph mark. Both seem to work when the car ins running. The temperature, oil pressure and oil temp gauges all return to their zero mark when the car is turned off.

    The car had a new fuse panel installed by a previous owner so I doubt that fuses are the problem.

    Any help would be appreciated, and please keep it specific; I have never gotten into the internals of the car so I will be moving into new territory.

    Fuel sender is bad. It's mounted on the tank. When I got my car it operated similar as you indicate - replacement was around $100.

    Speedometer doesn't drop below 10mph normally whether when driving (stop sign) or engine off. Many '80 cars are like this with a pin at 10mph.

    Tach should go to zero... gauge needs to be serviced by competent shop.

    One thing you said which was confusing...if speedo and tach go to zero when running but stop short of zero which engine off...there must be a strong magnetic field in the area which is causing this.

    sorry if I was not clear;

    engine running- tach and speedo working

    engine off: tach needle at approx 1000 rpm

    speedo needle at 10 mph

    all was fine before I took the car on a 7000 rpm blast up to 120...
