when removing the foam board in the trunk we came upon loose rock wool insulation. is this correct. what does it insulate? heat from muffler? sound? the stuff is a mess. looks like mice have been in it. it must go. i am planning to replace it with some type of batten material from some new car i can find at the junkyard, but if there's a heat issue invovled i need to know.

sorry, my bad. 85 308qv. as for pics, i'm not sure how to post them. the loose stuff, which appears to be cellulose, is along the rear portion of the trunk under the carpeting and under the taillights.
