On three seperate occasions I have had people come up to me and my Modena and ask if it is one of the new Mustangs. What?!! They usually say that they saw the "horse" emblem. Naturally they missed the word, Ferrari just above it. Before I develop a complex, has this happened to anyone else?

If it gets to you, you bought the car for the wrong reasons...

It's always bugged me because it's usually someone trying to stir things up. I remember stopping at the Golden Gate Bridge toll booth in a genuine 427 Cobra and having a guy in another car say, "nice fake, down to the license plate frame and all, huh". I just said, "yep, you got me!" I think he was in a Pinto or something.

Yes, it's happened to me several times. The questioners were in no-way being derisive or insulting. They were just curious.

Recently, someone asked if it was a Lamborghini. I guess he didn't see the horses!

You can hardly blame the general public for not knowing what a Ferrari looks like. Most owners appear to have no interest in actually driving them so the public never gets a chance to see one until the new "Mustang" shows up one day.

My neighbor, didn't talk to me last 2 years, asked me last week "where's your Magnum moustache??" :D:D:D
Since I have a red F-car I get lots of attention, with the silvergrey gt4 I got only a few reactions.

Nothing to be bugged about. There are approximately 231,246,093,859,941 fake Cobras (that look similar to the real thing) for a handful of actual ones. The odds of seeing a genuine one at the toll booth out of the blue are so scarce ... heck when I see a Cobra on the street, I think "replica".

It's a perfect opportunity to educate someone who's interested but ignorant.

If they're not trying to be jerks then maybe showing them that Ferraris and Lamborghinis --while both Italian --chose different critters for their logos

Maybe if you have time you could show them a few of the features used to distinguish your car from errrr 'similar looking' models :p

You might help a newbie enthusiast learn what to look for when carspotting.

I took my TR to Taco Bell at about 12 last night and the kid in the drive through goes "oh that's a kit car, right?" And I say, "Nope!" The he turns to the other guy in there and says "It has to be fake, no one around here would
drive one of those!" Ehhhh, O.K. Fella.

On any given day here in Omaha you will see 2-3 new Range Rovers and about 10 BMW 7 series.........All the same price or a little more than my TR.

That's the problem with certain brands these days. If you own a genuine Cobra or Rolex, everyone and his brother assumes it's a fake and thinks you're a poseur!

    One of my favorites:

I had a guy follow me into a parking lot one evening and (in front of his son) ask/state: "that's one of them there Alfa RomeRo's?" When I replied "Alfa ROMEO no, but close, its a Ferrari." He shrugged his shoulders and said "not familiar with those".
Things that make you go HMMM.

About three weeks ago I was at the gas station filling my Grigio 328 when a ridiculously attractive 25 year old woman sauntered up to me and began to speak. My usually sequestered male ego was just waiting to hear what she had to say.

"Oh hi, is that the new Mustang??"

Much to my regret there is no picture of my dumfounded and stricken face right at that moment. So much for my overblown male ego; I was so stunned I couldn't even muster a coherent reply. (Or if I did I have no idea what I said!!)

Little did I know that this is a common occurence!!

I must be the only person who disagrees. Unfortunately, most people talk before they think so I think it's all about education (the auto-ignoramus).

Case in point: I own two old air-cooled VWs, the station wagon looking ones. Most people recognize it as a VW but commonly call it a "bug". It doesn't even look CLOSE to a Bug. At the other end, many think it's an old Volvo (with no grill in the nose...hmmm?). So when someone makes such a wrong statement I politely explain to them how they are wrong and point out the obvious differences so next time they won't make such a mistake.

If a person isn't trying to be ****** (and those people deserve any and all snide and witty remarks hucked at them) then I would explain to them the obvious differences between a PRANCING HORSE and a RUNNING HORSE, not to mention the manufacturer badging (blue oval vs. yellow rectangle) and how the car doesn't even look close to a Mustange ;)

After being detailed, i was going to pick up my Sebring and one of the guys who worked at the car wash looked at me and said, "Wow, you're really into Mustangs, huh...?" i laughed and told him it was a Ferrari horse but that people confuse the two all the time...

I never said that I wouldn't answer their questions, I just said that it doesn't get to me.

I still stand by my original statement though.
