    Hi,

I have a new 360 Spider on order, which is due for delivery in the summer. I have started the process of hunting down insurance and have been shocked at the quotes I am getting.

I am 35, have 9Years NCB and live in the middle of nowhere, no garage however. The best Insurance quote I have had is £3.7K with a 10K+ excess, they get much worse than that, 12K in one case!

I read the various threads on insurance, and this seems way of the mark compared with the people on Fchart, any advice would be very gratefully accepted

I've just been going through the insurance loop again because of my soon to be delivered car.

Quite a few folk here find the Liverpool and Victoria good. I couldn't get a quote from them because of the value of the car.

Royal bank of Scotland, who underwrite all sorts like Tesco, Direct Line and others also have this problem. There quotes are good but their value limit is below that of the L&V.

ClassicLine will insure you for a reasonable amount (for the CS it was around £2300) with a milage limit. There are two choices for this limit 3k and 5k. If you break the 5k limit you have no insurance.

In the end I stayed with Chubb who I have used for the past couple of years. I have found their cover exceptional and at £2000 for the CS also the best quote.

No garage will be an issue for all of the insurance companies for that car. Can you rent one or knock up some sort of shed?

Looks like I need to change to Chubb.
They look Quite a bit cheeper.

I'm currently with ClassicLine and Robin is correct at around £2300.
But I have a 6000 mile limit which IS extandable.
My car MUST be garaged between 9PM and 6AM if i'm at home.

Matthew, where abouts in London are you, I might know of a parking space or two in Fulham area?. Got to be cheaper and more secure than the NCP.

Just been here insuring the Stradale. Chubb, contacted by all but one of the companies I spoke to (Classicline, Ferrari-Maserati, Adrian Flux, Cheam) came up with £2659. Cover is exceptional, and agreed value. In the end though, because I am Mr Tight, I went with AON, £1624, market value, plus GAP insurance. The latter gave me £250 discount for FOC membership.

Cost for trackdays is £105 but with a 10% XS (gulp) and max £100K insured value (ditto), it may be cheaper to get specialist cover. They really don't like trackdays do they...

    Kevin

Liverpool Victoria, my usual first port of call, don't insure over £100K and the limit for Tesco is about £70K.

Its good to here all you guys are only paying 2Kish for your 120K+ beasts... I just need to hang on for a few more NCB yrs me thinks!

I pay 2,600 for my 60K 355 (26, live in nrth London, 3NCB) - avec Tescos. At the other end of the spectrum of quotes was Norwich Union - 7.5K !!! It certainly pays to get lots of quotes...

    Matthew,

I think if you are seriously considering having a new 360, not garaged, in the UK you have to be insane. The streets are crammed to the gunnals with thieving jealous t@ssers. At the very least it will get 'modified' externally. I'm suprised you even get quotes, see it from the insurers side, the risks would be v'high. I would have thought if space is available the best option would be to get a garage built whilst you are awaiting the delivery. You say you are 'in the middle of nowhere' so I am making the assumption that space is probably available, or at least obtainable at a price. The quotes you are getting would fund a garage over a say 5 year reduced insurance premium offset.

I would be very wary of AON. I bought my first F car from Talacrest on the strength of AON's 'very' competitive quote and had the first years premium with them, delighted in its reasonableness. Then came renewal time and the price went up by exactly 50%! I had no change in circumstances, no actually scrub that, I had BETTER circumstances, my first year of Ferrari ownership claim free under my belt! What had happened is the usual story, AON changed underwriters, some peoples policies took a hammering others (so I'm told?) reduced.

In my year #2 of F car ownership 'Norton Heritage' then became the best option, at only a couple of pounds over the cost of my first year premium with AON.

I have to say a similiar worrying trend occurred with my MV Agusta motorcycle insurance, when it came to year #2 the premium went up massively, again with no detrimental change to my circumstances, rather another claim free year, so I told that company in no uncertain terms where to go and put their policy.

Its like a big game being played out there by both underwriters and Brokers, I dont mind, I'll play it, but if they are cheeky enough to start trying it on, I won't feel at all bad about being blunt with them when they do.

thanks dave, I am hoping mine will drop as I turned 30 last december. I'll keep you posted in the difference as i'm currently paying £1300 fully comp full ncb, with protected ncb for a 355 GTS. I had to have a tracker fitted before they would insure me for theft!!!!!

Thanks everybody for the advice, and the offers of garages!

I actually have a couple of places I own in the UK. I have a place out in the "middle of nowhere" in rural Essex. My intention was to leave the car there, however no garage.

I also have a flat in the city of London, with a very secure garage (gates/CCTV etc). It appears the best option I have is to leave the car in town in the secure garage, much to my surprise.

I phoned round the various recommended insurers and AON gave me a quote for £2.3K for the car garaged in London, happy to go with that.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I have confirmed my car order now.

An interesting aside is that I looked at L&V, and boy they are cheap, if the car is below £100K value you can get a great price. I could insure a 3 year old V12 550 for half the price of the 360Spider.

guys thanks for the london and victoria link

I have just rang them and can save over £500 immediately, no tracker needed, no mileage limit and class 1 business use. WOW. Can also save £150 a year on my daily driver and the difference between 3rd party fire + theft and fully comp was a penny. Thanks again. What a bargain
