Just to start off, I am very new to the Ferrari scene and have enjoyed reading this forum. The amount of useful information can't be bought anywhere for any price and I sure do appreciate it!

I wanted to share something else that I found out today and was certainly floored. When I added my 95 F355b to my insurance policy and deleted my 97 M3 I actually saved money. I don't know how they did it but I was sure that it would have been higher. Travelers Insurance suprised the heck out of me. It even made my wife so happy she went shopping this afternoon and probably will spend more than what I saved :) hey...no problem.

Thanks for providing all of the information on this site and I hope to be able to contribute more in the future.

    Steve

I've seen some strange things in the insurance world re: E36 M3s also. I sold a '99 E36 M3 and replaced it with an '02 E46 M3 and my premium went down! Insurers don't seem to like the loss history on the E36 M3 apparently.

Awsome. What colour is your F355? Insurence is higher on red cars because it has been proven that red cars get into more accidents than any other colour. Yellow cars also have higher insurence rates because it is a very noticable colour and insurence companies say it has a better chance than getting into an accident. In my opinion it's just a big insurence scam becasue in the end they don't really car about your safety, they just want your money.

That's a myth. Car color is not a factor on your insurance rates.

my g55 and 996TT were as much as my 360.
    few years back, i had a 355 and a 996 C2 and the 996 was more than the 355!

m3's are notorious for high insurance. my insurance company had it rated in the same category (ie, the highest) as ferraris, lambos, etc. apparently people buying those things wreck them a lot? it actually dissuaded me from buying one years ago.

No, it's true. The dealership and our insurence company told us the same thing when we bought our car.

    I have a red 348 & a blue M3.

M3 costs more to insure ($100 more). The color is just a myth.

Insurance company calculate risks from many factors, and color was one of a factor, but not a major one. (meaning not high factors like model/type of vehicle, age, driving history, location, driving usage, etc.) Some color has higher percentage of accident/trouble in the statistics. At least, that's how it was in 80's when I was in the business as part-timer in college days.

M3 may have higher accident, total & vandalism rate than 355. Also most people probably use M3 over 355 for a daily, which means higher chance to use insurance.

    When I switched 98 355 spider to 99 355GTB, I got refund, too. And I got refund when I switched 86 328GTS to 98 355 spider.

Same boat- my porsche is about 1/4 (no kidding) of the cost to insure vs. my 540. Of course, not only is the porsche not used as a daily driver, but I also insure it through a specialty insurance comapny (Leland West). They know its only driven a certain number of miles a year, is garaged 99% of the time (that is pretty much garaged except when I'm driving it), and not used as daily commuter. I'm quite happy with that rate, and ticked off at the 540's premium.

The f-car must be a second (or 3rd, 4th, etc) car for you (didn't check your profile), but its common for the "weekend car" to get a discount, and especially compared to what the insurance computers would say is a "fast" BMW ("M"-models, V8, V12, etc). Maybe BMW's have a high theft rate, or high repair rate or something (higher % stolen vs. Ferrari, but I can't believe the cost to repair the BMW would be anywhere near that of the Ferrari!)

More importantly, CONGRATULATIONS on the purchase!!! I love the 355!!

Insurance is cheaper on all sports cars than M3s because they are often driven by very immature young males who think they know how to drive but prove to everyone on they can't - on public streets no less.

I just found that it was interesting that the insurance for an Exotic was less than for a German Import. Seeing that other forum members have found the same to be true, maybe shopping other companies may even prove to provide larger savings.

    That is my point.

I couldn't believe this either. The insurance on my 1993 E36 325is (only worth about $3k) was more than the 328 or 355.
