I know the topic of insurance has been covered here numerous times, (I already performed various searches) but I'm wanting to put all my toys (2002 360, 1997 Porsche 993 Cabriolet, 1997 MB 500 SL, 1995 355) under one policy with a limit on individual vehicle mileage of 5,000 mi. / yr.

Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Greg

I've been happy w/ State Farm. You get their lowest rates with a good driving record, multiple cars and 3-years or longer of being insured by them. Once you're in that tier, then the insurance rates seem competitive with "collector" insurance that let's you drive the car, but without restrictions (having to have a non-collector primary car, having to be always garaged, etc).

I would recommend CHUBB - the best high-end provider out there and the best customer service.

I would recommend if you are going to put all your cars on a policy - step it up and move your houses, personal effects, etc. You will get much better rates and also one company to deal with.

I have been with Chubb for about 10 years - couldn't be happier. I can go out and buy a car, they just want me to call soon after to let them know what I bought - many companies will only cover you prior to your pickup. Picked up a Porsche in Europe a number of years ago - no problem covering me while I drove it in Europe.. I could go on - but great customer service - and fairly competitive - but not the cheapest - but worth it IMO.

Grundy's, which is actually Chubb, will let you cover multiple cars with only one charge for liability

Some of your cars are too common to qualify, but Hagerty is tough to beat if you have a bunch of exotic or antique cars. For three Ferraris (512 Boxer, fiberglass 308, 365 GT2+2, all exceptionally nice original cars), 4 Alfas (two '59 Spider Veloces, 1 '65 Spider Veloce, '69 GTV), a Maserati Mexico, and two Caterham Sevens (one Superlight R and a new 260hp CSR, first in the US), I pay a TOTAL of about $2k a year with full coverage and stated value on all cars (ranging from $30k to $100k on my cars, each). State Farm was charging me just over 1k just for the Boxer and that was using an accident and claim free policy I've held for over 20 years. I should have switched years ago; finally wised up three years back.

I respectfully disagree, in my experience with Hagerty they will probably insure those cars. I won't speak for them, but I think those all fit within their guidelines.

Greg, it would be worth a call to Hagerty to see if they will insure all 4 of those cars, but you can't go wrong with any of the companies listed so far.

He really took care of me, great rates, great service and very flexible approach. One thing they do which is very cool, since 5k can be limiting with a modern car should you want to go on a nice car trip(say Vegas or such!!!). YOu simply let them know the dates and rough intinerary and they exclude the whole trip from the mileage limitations. I have a 360, pcar and maserati insured with them for a very good rate.

I just insured my 97 355 spider with the company I have been with forever (USI Midwest), and have to agree with the other posters - you need to take all of your business to one insurance company for the best rates. That is I think the best way to get a "cheap" rate for your cars. For example, I have my primary residence, along with 8 other rental properties, and my MB E class and MB ML class and the total insurance with the Ferrari only went up by $850 / year! I thought that was pretty cheap!

For us guys over 50, the AARP insured me for $550/year for my '96 Spider. I had house and 4 other 'normal' cars also insured.

Farmer Dave may be right, perhaps Hagerty will insure all the cars on your list. I just know they wouldn't insure my ML55 or any other common later model Mercedes on my classic/exotic policy. My agent is a Farmer's agent that does Hagerty as well; he does our house and "every day driver" policies with Farmers including $1m umbrella and the rest of the cars are under Hagerty. If you have several (more than 5, say) exotic or antique autos, Hagerty or Grundy seem impossible to beat from what I've seen. And no, I'm not the Pope, although I think he could get the same rates from Hagerty if he tried. I don't think I could even fit in any of my cars with the funny hat on, so it is just as well. Maybe if I put the top down....

Ours are spread out over Chubb and the drivers with State Farm. No complaints for Chubb and they've been nothing but helpful with new purchases, valuations, on line payments, etc...

If you have an insurer, don't jump ship to save a few hundred bucks. Insurability is an important topic that few consider, and is an important tangential issue to remember. If you have hard-to-insure cars, it is often difficult to persuade an underwriter to insure four cars that can reach speeds over 150 miles per hour. If you are able to persuade the company to do so, and then have an accident a year or two later, don't be surprised to get a non-renewal letter.

I would never trade insurability and policy longevity for short-sighted "savings." Companies are more likely to retain long-term policy holders after catastrophic losses than someone who rate-shops every year or two.

i just moved my policy for my 96 f355 from hagerty (value $70k) to my regular car ins policy with response worldwide. $1200 went to $726. the $726 is based on 12,000 miles a year and will come down to a bit less than 700 when i get the odometer disclosure statement done in 3 months. 3000 miles per yr is the lowest tier for reponse.

response did not insure hi end sports car for quite some time but started to do so about a yr ago.

i'm paying more for my c32 amg than the f355! i have suspicion that this may not last!

i've been happy with their service over the years. free towing, lockout and roadside assistance.

    hope this helps.
