Before I call and give some salesman my information I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me some ideas as to how much insuring a classic Ferrari, with an agreed value of $1mil. (minimal miles per year, garaged securely, etc.), costs for one years premium? Any approximate info, would be great.

A lot depends on how much insurance you have placed with them, how high a deductible you are willing to have, if you ship your car around, if you need worldwide coverage, what your ownership history is, how well the car is maintained, fire system?, do you need rally/track coverage?, etc.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the lowest quote isn't as important as having a company that will write a check after reasonable investigation when something goes wrong.

I use and would recommend Chubb.

I can definitely vouch for Chubb! 275 had a mishap and dealing with them was--wait for it--a pleasure. Save for a ground up restoration (completely unneccessary for the minor front impact), they had several of the best shops at our disposal and never really restricted anything.

    Best,
    Max

On a side note they are also incredible for home coverage-- we kept a house in Montreal and in the bitter winter of 2000 while we were gone for a weekend a water pipe burst and literally turned four floors of beds, carpets, paintings, antique furniture, electronics, a poor 360, a poor Brooklands, and pretty much everything else into mush or an icicle and they immediately got to everything--(providing for the restoration of paintings that weren't part of the policy etc...) and were very flexible with us during the seven month reconstruction as we decided to do additional renovations and it was a rather sweet twist to a pretty shocking experience!

Chubb is great to deal with so is Firemans Fund. You have a high end car and need high end insurance. Also get the car properly appraised this will document the condition of the car before hand. As and appraiser I deal with people every month that have State Farm insurance for thier Porsche 356 Carbiolet with S90 motor and wonder why State Farm does not belive it's a $90,000 car

I have been very pleased with Hagerty, and unhappy with Chubb.

I use State Farm collectors insurance, but have never had a claim so no feedback on that. One thing I insisted on was if the car is totaled I own the remains. I had their VP issue a letter stating this. I do not want anyone junking my 275 if the repair cost is too high. Jim

Tell us more, please. Is this based on filing claims?

I'm in the process of moving away from Hagerty and towards Chubb!

My cars are insured by Chubb, but I have no idea how good they are, as no issues (happy about that). Although they ask for a gps/gsm car system costs are relatively affordable, my 275 alloy about 1800 euro and 212 export about 2000.

    hope this helps,
    o.

Never had a claim. Chubb car insurance (non collector on daily drivers) turned out to be 40 percent high compared to Travelers, and their valuable item HO rider was 90 percent high on my guns.

Did you have a problem with Hagerty?

I have had two claims with J.C.Taylor, both were handled quickly. One was a windshield on a Jag from a rock, and the other was bouncing universal joint on the interstate that hit my 57 T-bird and put a cresent shaped dent in a quarter panel. I currently have 3 cars with them.

They wouldn't insure my Ariel Atom.
