As some of you may know, I have a deep, deep love affair with the insurance industry. Especially the way they charge the **** out of you for premiums and then force you to pay even more, more, more in co-pays, deductibles, etc. Well, we have had our premiums set on an auto-withdrawal for the 15th of each month. After reviewing our finances in November we discovered it would benefit us to push it to the end of the month. I called Assurant and they said the latest they could schedule it was for the 25th. It was too late to change November's payment, but they arranged for payments to post on the 25th beginning in December. Because of Christmas, they would charge us on the 23rd, but otherwise things seemed OK. This morning I looked at my account and saw a pending withdrawal for our insurance premiums! The bank said they can't block it since it's already posting, and to call the insurer. I got through to a woman in billing, and she assured me (thus the name, I guess) that no change was ever requested on our part, and that my December payment was debited on the 15th. Now, she was telling me this as I was viewing my bank account with the December 23rd debit staring me in the face. I snapped--I explained to her that the very reason we made the change was to avoid the very problem I am facing this morning, with an extra un-planned $1000 debiting my account. So right now I'm waiting for a "supervisor" to call me back.
